Special Edition Solid Spruce/Pau Ferro Ukulele

This is a new model from Kala's special edition scallop series. It features all solid and beautiful woods and a smooth scoop cutaway normally only seen in high end custom ukes. It has a beautiful gloss finish and a wonderful sweet tone we think you'll love. Take a listen as Corey gives a "raw" sound sample of this new tenor.

The Scallop line gets its name from the slight, scooped cutaway. This distinct feature maintains the classic ukulele body, while granting access to the highest frets.

Even though this ukulele is not inexpensive it's still an excellent value for what you get. First off it's very well made and it sounds great! Beyond that, it has a classy design with attractive bear claw spruce and Pau Ferro. The fantastic gloss finish protects the wood but is thin enough to let the wood speak, as you can hear from the video. It has the scallop pau-ferro cutaway, giving access to the highest frets with ease, and it has a beautiful sound all the way up the fretboard. Couple that with the setup work we put into it and you will love the sound and the feel!! Comes with open gear Grover tuners, Graphtech Nut & Saddle, and Kala's signature artichoke and leaf inlay.

We set up each instrument to ensure you get the absolute best for your money! This includes the following: saddle and nut heights, fret work (usually planing or dressing), intonation checks, and a thorough inspection for cosmetic flaw. This is crucial for this middle price range; you can really get close to a high end tenor feel from our work. We are always dedicated to giving you honest and expert service and advice!

We always include a humidifier with solid wood instruments. However, if you live in a dry area, or use indoor heating or cooling for part of the year, please upgrade to the Oasis humidifier to properly protect this solid wood ukulele.

Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide, at no extra cost, on all ukuleles we ship out. However, this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We now offer "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options, along with current turnaround times for each, at the link- HERE.

When you buy this ukulele you can get an UkeCrazy gig bag or canvas covered hard case at an additional discount.  (Not required but suggested.) The UkeCrazy gig bag and canvas covered hard case can be seen in our cases category under the accessories tab at the top of this page. Other cases can also be chosen there.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18 or OH-5+) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area (parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..), or areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info refer to the ukulele care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, you need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Hard to beat for the price
Owned this Uke for about a year now. It’s truly beautiful. The scalloped cutaway makes it look like it costs 3 times as much. Plus the little inlay details really add to the high end look. The sound is great. The solid spruce top makes it more punchy great for finger picking since each note rings clear. In a small room it projects extremely well. You can hear every note clearly from the back without any amplification. I prefer my Pono mango for soft or chorded songs since the sound is warmer. It’s great for performances in coffee shops etc. it looks awesome and projects really well even if you are mic’d and the uke is not. Hard to beat for the price.
