All Solid Acacia Baritone ~ Bone Nut & Saddle ~ Adjustable Truss Rod!

Pono is making ultra high quality ukes for this mid-price range. This is a great example. Beautiful solid acacia wood voiced just right. We guarantee you will love the feel, sound, and look of this instrument.

This is the bare bones Acacia model. No frills, just beautiful woods, quality components, and our full setup. Satin finish. Kalei gives us a raw sound sample.

A key feature in all of the Pono tenor and baritone models is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. This is used to stabilize and adjust the lengthwise forward curvature (also called relief), of the neck. It can be adjusted from right inside the soundhole with an allen wrench provided. This is something you will probably not need to adjust. But over time and with humidity changes, it is a very useful option to have, and a very easy thing to adjust with little room for error.

Acacia is a family of trees that Hawaiian koa belongs to. This is not Hawaiian koa but comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands with hands on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. These are constructed by the finest instrument makers and to Ko'olau specs and design. They sound as good and better than higher end ukes you would pay over a grand for! This instrument is a solid value!

We always include a humidifier with solid wood instruments. This is not an option, and we do not charge for it.

The baritone is a fun and relaxing instrument that any guitar or ukulele player should feel right at home with.

When you buy this ukulele you can get a UkeCrazy gig bag or canvas covered hard case at an additional discount. (Not required but suggested.) The UkeCrazy gig bag and canvas covered hard case can be seen in our cases category under the Accessories tab at the top of this page. Other cases can also be chosen there.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360 included humidifier for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area (parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc.) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you heat the air in your house. For more info refer to the Ukulele Care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, then you also need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Nice sound, but finish,or lack therof, dissapointing.
The description around the video described the finish as "satin". It isn't. It is very flat, dull, natural wood. (although the bridge has a satin finish). This is definitely the NO FRILLS version. The tones are deep, warm and rounded, as one would expect a good baritone to be. I hope this bari does improve with use and age. Otherwise, I will always wish that I had splurged and purchased the "deluxe" version. I wish that Pono would give a "satin" choice!

Pono Baritone is a High-End Quality Ukulele
I was reviewing the Koolau Pono Guitars and Ukuleles website in 2010 and seen the incoming ukuleles for 2011 when I found that a new model ABD Pono Baritone would be released soon and made of Preta Acacia from South America. I went directly to the factory on Cane street in Wahiawa,Oahu and the shipments so happen to have arrived and I asked for the Delux Model Baritone. I was lucky that day as it was the first shipment in and only one ABD was available. It was suppose to go to Bounty Music Supply in Maui but the friendly gentleman sold it to me and setting up a passive pickup and a strap button for the neck. The Point of this story is I have grown to love this and all the music I learned to sing and play beautiful rhythems. It fills my heart by the rich sounds. This Ukulele completes me.

Great sound, well-made, beautiful simplicity!
This is may favorite ukulele for daily playing, The sound is deep, warm and offers so much possibility (once my skills improve!). The simple undecorated beauty and the attractive wood grain make this an understated but elegant instrument. It is very comfortable to play, and compared to other baritones that I have tried, it is not overbuilt (some seem to have the resonance of a brick because they are so stiff, thick and coated with a syrup of gloss. This uke is sturdy but lively! It doesn't feel like I am playing 'it', but rather like we are interacting. It has great sustain that allows you to do things that lesser ukes can't manage, With beautiful tone and having been well set-up by HMS, this is truly one of the great bargains in the world of ukulele's.

This is absolutely a great uke for a guitarist wanting to add another sound to their collection. The sound is deep and solid with a uniquely baritone uke tone. I love the action and size of this uke. I recommend the Pono AB to anyone wanting a quality instrument at an affordable price. This isn't a toy.

A great instrument for folks with problem hands
I am a former guitar player but had to give it up due to multiple problems with fingers and hands. Arthritis in wrist and fingers, carpal tunnel, locking fingers, numbness, and more. I wanted a 4 stringed instrument that would be easy on my hands, and easy to translate some of my guitar knowledge to. This Pono baritone was perfect for me. The set up process gave me a chance to input what my particular needs are, to request a pickup, extras strings, etc. My Pono-AB arrived quickly and as is a joy- a beautiful instrument that I play every day.

This baritone is everything that it's advertized to be and more. The quality is. super. It sounds great in the video but, in person, it's a whole different story. This baritone exceeds all of my expectations. The tone is so deep and warm. The action is just perfect and it's very comfortable to play. I would recommend a Pono to anyone. I'm a new Pono fan and also a fan of Hawaii Music Supply. Thank you!
