Description

Details

The MT is a fairly simple tenor with less "frills" than others. The tone and playability are where it's at with this model. And the new look is sharp! The construction and finish is very clean, with a transparent smooth satin, almost semi-gloss, natural finish. If you want a good look without it being shiny, this may be the right uke for you. The ebony at the bridge, fingerboard, and headstock, and even the black buttons on the Grover tuners follow the two toned theme with mahogany being the other wood. This is Honduran solid quarter sawn mahogany, a quality wood. The superior acoustic qualities are apparent. Many have gigged and recorded albums with this model. This latest batch, with ebony and being re-voiced, is the best Pono MT yet!

This has always been one of the most loved models in store and on the website. Earlier this year Ko'olau made some small adjustments to the bracing on this model. They also changed the fretboard and bridge from rosewood to ebony. This makes it easy to ship internationally because of new regulations on shipping rosewood. Ialso adds to the attractive quality of the instrument. That, along with the skill and dedication of the craftsman, is what makes these new MT sound and look better than ever!

The Pono MT has a bone nut and saddle, Grover geared tuning keys, and a dual action truss rod for adjusting the neck. But just looking at the "specs" won't really tell you how good an ukulele is. The great thing about this instrument is the sound and feel.

A key feature in all of the Pono tenor and baritone models is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. This is used to stabilize and adjust the lengthwise forward curvature, also called relief, of the neck. It can be adjusted from inside the soundhole with the provided allen wrench. This is something you will probably not need to adjust. But over time and with humidity changes it is a very useful option to have, and it is a very easy thing to adjust.

Photos and video are stock typical. Pono does not include a case with this model but we are including it for free!

Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide, at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However, this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We now offer "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18), at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area (parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..), or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info, refer to the ukulele care link at the bottom of this page. If you need to humidify the instrument, then you need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work. Maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Another option is to switch from high G tuning (like in the video) to low G tuning. This is a blog article discussing it, if you are not sure whether you want High or Low G?
