Great Uke
Very satisfied with this Uke, Pono At Acacia Tenor. No Pono's where I live (Denver), so I couldn't compare mahagony or mango versions. Mine came with free hard case for $399, which is pretty amazing. I have a 2011 Ko'olau KC Concert (basic model) satin finish and I must say the workmanship on the Pono is probably even better, if you can believe it. I had the Pono AT strung with low G (wound metal G&C), but didn't like the squeek so changed to Fremont "soloist" polished low G string and a flurocarbon (Oasis) C string. I got this Tenor to play around with low G and am loving it. If you change the strings on low G don't forget, low-G note is G3: 196hz. A high-g is G4: 392hz. The volume might not be as loud as say a KoAloha, but I don't see how the sustain could be any better. If you're looking for a daily player for low money, this Uke can't be beat, especially with the Hawaii Music Supply spot on full set up. So in summary, maybe not the prettiest or loudest Ukulele, but for the money I really don't see how there can be any regrets. I love this Ukulele!!! Just get it and take the extra time to get full set

Love my new pono
What a beautiful tenor. The wood is very pretty . Seems well constructed. I love the feel of the neck. It has nice tuners , a great sound, and came with a hard case. What else could you ask for at this price .
Thank you for the wonderful setup, and top notch customer service .

Love this ukulele
Just got this beauty about two weeks ago. I have played it everyday since and am improving pretty quickly. My last uke was a gift, a Lanikai Lu-21 soprano. I played it pretty frequently. As I improved over several months I started to notice a significant buzz. I stopped playing the Lanikai because the buzz annoyed me so much. I've been waiting to upgrade for several years and finally decided to for my 40th bday. My initial budget was $300 max but after a bit of research realized that Pono was the way to go so increased by budget to afford the Pono AT. LOVE the tenor size. Got the stock stings; the wound C string took me a bit to get used to but now really like. Got a high G. I love feeling the vibration against my body. This thing really hums. Built up some calluses on my fingers so now try to play at least an hour a day. If your looking for something to love this one is great!! Everyone at HMS was great especially Zach! He was really helpful for me. Thank to everyone there and to Eli for a wonderful setup! I will be buying from HMS again! Right now I'm looking at the Pono Mahogany Slothead Tenor Pro Classic (MTSH-PC) for my next bday!

Great recent change in sound.
I have had this ukulele for about 4 months now and wow, it just popped into another level of sound. I don't know why, but the sound was just ok, then last week I noticed the sound changed and now is so good, I cannot go a day without playing. I love it. Thanks boys.

LOVE this Uke. Thanks for all the pains you take to help us get it right!
After talking with Arron i decided to go with the Pono AT. I have NO regrets. The instrument is beautiful, holds it's tuning well and has a subtlety of tone and expression to it i have never experienced previously. Thanks for the excellent advice and fabulous setup. SOMEDAY i hope to buy a fancier model, but this wonderful uke is a real joy to play. I'm in no hurry to upgrade.

Wonderfully fantastic
Really wonderful instrument. My first ukulele but I have been playing guitar for over twenty years. Anybody that's purchased a high end guitar knows that any single model can vary depending on component specifics and natural variation. Also, it makes a big difference who you purchase it from. I had intended on purchasing a "real" uke locally after buying my toddler a Makala Waterman and discovering how fun it was to screw around with. My local guitar shop is very well regarded for their set ups and is quite often used by professionals for their guitar work and customizations. The owner can quickly get back logged and a servicing can take a couple months for non-professionals that don't rely on their guitars to make their living. Unfortunately their selection was pretty lacking and when I asked them what sort of care and set up their ukes got the response wasn't really to my liking. I was given an honest answer and told they pretty much go out the way they come in. I had been doing some research and came across this site. Like most people I suspect, I was really impressed by the passion that has been put into presenting their love for these instruments. I'm a pretty optimistic person and figured to much work goes into this site with all the videos and reviews for them to be trying to fool anyone and pulled the trigger on what I hoped would be a good representation of what an honest low frills traditional uke should be. As someone who really values fret work and playability, I don't believe I could have made a better choice. I might be convinced I should have bought a different uke but I doubt I could be convinced I could have purchased from a better retailer. The set up, just as others have reported, is phenomenal. The uke itself is simple looking and sounds complex. I'm really shocked at the tone this thing gives off. I had it set up with a low G and can't believe the resonance this instrument is capable of. You really feel it. It's so thick you can almost bite it. Can't think of anything else at the moment to add except to say that if your on the fence stop waiting, your wasting time. Instead of looking you could be playing one of these awesome instruments!

LOVE IT
First off, it is really cool to be able to call and talk to Aaron-or Corey personally. Its like calling Steve Vai, or Eric Johnson-and becoming friends with your heroes! Now to this ukulele-i have a kamaka tenor that is my baby-and i got this as a beater-but beater it shall not be! it's every bit as great with a warm woody sound-i will be recording with it soon and can't wait to put it under the sound microscope.I have sent 3 of my students to HMS-for ukes and all have been stellar including this one. I also ordered a cheaper case-and they upgraded it with out charge. No one does business better than these guys. I am also a fireman for the city of Waco Texas-but when i retire-i want to work at HMS! you guy's are the best! God bless, Shane Spann

Great Uke at a great price!
The Pono AT is a great ukulele at a great price. It is louder and fuller than any of our other ukuleles. It has great sustain and stands in tune really well. Intonation is spot on. At this price range, this might be one of the best choices. We strongly recommend not settling for a cheaper ukulele: Pono is perfect and will certainly bring you more joy than saving a few bucks on a less expensive one.

Pono ATDC
I very much enjoy this uke. I have the cutaway and though I do play up that high I must admit it was for ascetics as well. The sound is very warm and the set up is amazing. I have used several different kinds of strings but have yet to come up with a favourite.

My only complaint is that I find it too soft when playing with others. When performing I am plugged in so it is not an issue.

This is a great instrument and my 1st Pono. I own a Kamaka and Kelii as well and this was a great addition to my ukulele family. Being in Canada, I don't get a lot of opportunity to play these instruments before I buy, so the demo video's that the folk at Hawaiian Music Supply provide are essential!
