This is a new model from Pono, and a new instrument to the market. It has a TE chambored body but with a pin bridge and steel strings.
Like a steel string acoustic guitar compared to a nylon stringed classical, this new model gives a different tone and dynamic range. It's more tension than nylon strings naturally, but we set them up low because they don't need the same clearance as nylon strings. One thing is obvious, your sustain is way longer and harmonics jump out like you don't get with nylon strings.
The body is two solid pieces, one going on top of the other solid peice routed out for an inside chamber that resonates pretty well acoustically, great for practice. Especially when you want to go for dynamics without cutting hard into another persons audio enjoyment in the next room. But it's an acoustic on some level. You can definitely hear the notes well in a quiet room. I'm pretty sure you could still annoy someone without plugging in. It depends how thin your walls are. But the point is, it's great for just grabbing and playing too.
Plugging in though gives as much volume as you want to make, as well as a range of possibilities and some are even farther reaching with steel. A very versatile instrument especially when you add effects that don't mix with acoustic so well. So, this is a pretty dry sound sample. Maybe we'll plug into effects for fun sometime. But you can hear the basic tone of this steel string tenor.
It's different than about any uke out there, but any player could play it. Same G-C-E-A. Well, maybe not if they have arthritis in their hands. It is steel strings. But let us know with an note in the special instructions box if you prefer really low action and we can set it up even lower. They are already set up a bit lower than normal nylon strings.
This comes with the same 4 crystal Pono passive pickup. Better than average output from a passive pickup, and with a very natural sounding amplification.Includes arched top custom hard case.
