AUCTION: Devine (TU-0188) Koa Tenor Custom

Eric Devine is a master luthier located in Maui. His ukes are of the highest level quality and he stays backordered by a few years. This one was completed in early 2014 and it was cared for by a responsible collector and is in mint condition. It features the ultimate "Mother of Curl" koa on the sides and back. This infamous tree had some of the finest and most extremely curly instrument grade koa ever. The binding is also Hawaiian koa but a rare white koa, and the neck is also curly koa!

The soundboard on this custom tenor is Engelmann spruce giving deep, lush tones and incredible sustain. On top of that the action is super low, 2mm at the 12th fret and the neck set and curvature are absolutely perfect to allow for ultra easy playability without buzzing. This along with the radius fretboard make it a dream to play.

The looks...well, you can judge for yourself, but we think it's pretty spectacular in a rare way. But the tone is equally impressive. Corey gives us a sample.

"Mother of curl" is koa from "the tree", a huge, very old koa tree that was in the Tantalus area here on Oahu overlooking Honolulu. It has been the source of some of the most master grade koa instruments that have been built since the 80's when it was cut. Earl Klugh and Chet Atkins each had guitars built by Paul McGill with wood from this tree. Eric Clapton and Michael Messer had guitars built with this wood by Mike Lewis in Paris. And other top notch custom luthiers have used this wood like Robert Ruck, Harry Fleischman, Ervin Somogyi, and of course, Eric Devine. It has this dark chocolaty coloring with super tight figuring and beautiful grain lines. This is the most outstanding cut we have ever seen!

This exquisite instrument is adorned with Eric's signature scrolling inlays done in bamboo and running up the fretboard and bridge as well as the purfling around the top. A true masterpeice of an instrument. Because of health problems this one will be rehomed and hopefully you will be enjoying it as your own soon!

2. This is an English format “open bid” auction. This means the bids are public and can be seen by others. Any price shown in the box below is the current prevailing bid. You must bid higher by at least $25.00. Reserve price is $4,500.

3. You must log in to your TheUkuleleSite account to bid. If you don’t have an account, simply create one. From "My Account" and  under the "My Auction" tab you need to set your auction name and choose when you would like to be emailed. You can also cancel bids from there. 

4. Bids are a fixed amount, there is no more Auto Bid in our auctions.

5. We’re including "Going, Going, Gone"  to simulate a live auction with an auctioneer. With this feature, any new highest bid received in the final 120] seconds will re-set a 120 second window for new bids to be received. As long as a higher bid comes in, the Going, Going, Gone window will re-set again. This cycle will continue until the prevailing bid survives without being overbid within the 120 second window.

6. When the auction ends, the highest bid received at or above the reserve price will be the winner. We must receive your bid for it to count.

7. The highest bid will be invoiced for the full value of the bid and have 24 hours from the invoice date to pay for their purchase in full. If the purchase price is not remitted by the deadline, Hawaii Music Supply may choose to offer the next highest bidder the opportunity to buy it at their final bid price.

8. Hawaii Music Supply reserves the right in its sole discretion to invalidate any bids that it determines have been made for the purpose of collusion or undermining the integrity of the auction. In such an event, Hawaii Music Supply may re-start or cancel the auction or choose to sell to any valid bidders. By entering this auction, all bidders agree that their bids are made with the intention to purchase the instrument featured in the auction at the price of their highest final bid. All bidders agree to avoid any coordination or collusion with other bidders.
