Aquila Nylgut Strings

Until the mid-20th century ukuleles were mounted exclusively in gut, a material that had been used for thousands of years and that combines excellent promptness of attack with brillance of timbre – very different, in other words, from nylon strings. And until recently the typical sound quality of gut has been a constant point of reference for luthiers, composers, and performers alike, A fundamental aim for our research has therefore been to make a new synthetic product having the same acoustic properties as gut – but without its typical defects – (high cost, limited duration and high instability under varying climatic.

Nylgut has precisely these qualities: allowing one, on the one hand, to rediscover the original sonorities of the ukulele; and guaranteeing, on the other, a stability of tuning higher even that that of the best nylon strings.

Aquila seta are all made from utterly innovative materials, discovered and perfected at our laboraties after a long period of research and testing carried out on the newest synthetic discoveries of high technology.

Upgrade from GHS strings
I replaced my GHS strings on my Ohana BK70RB Baritone with the Aquila Strings and it sure did bring out the sound of the spruce top.

These strings really last a good while and sound good also.

Excellent strings
The aquila strings have a beautiful tone and are very long lasting. For the baritone uke, the metal strings wear out a little faster, and on the ridges of the fretboard can get a little thin, but all in al aquila strings are the ones to have!

I like them
Some don't like string sets with wound strings, but I find with a baritone this set works well. the wound strings don't last as long as unwound, but to my ears, they have a more pleasing tone.

an upgrade
I have a mediocre Baritone uke and when I upgraded to these strings (EBGD) it made all the difference. Instead of a mumbled, soft sound I now have clear bright notes. The nylgut only takes a day or so to stretch out and then they have been rock solid in tune every time I pick up the instrument. I have had them on the Baritone for about 3 months now and there is no sign of wear or age.

I also have these strings in GCEA on a Baritone. These dont produce a sound that I think is quite true, no matter how much I try and work the tuning. When I compare the sound to my tenor in GCEA the sound good, string by string, but when I play the Baritone by itself something seems off overall. So I dont recommend using the GCEA strings to just convert a Baritone to standard uke tuning. It does the job but it is not all that pleasing in the end result.
