Cedar Top Rosewood Slothead 5 series!

This is a classic model from Pono's flagship 5 series Pro Classic. It has a western red cedar top and exotic Indonesian rosewood. This rosewood is highly regarded and sells for much more than Indian rosewood. The history of this strain is that the Dutch imported Brazilian rosewood to Indonesian soil when they colonized both Brazil and Indonesia. Developed in a different land, it varies slightly from the South American wood, but has a similar color and grain pattern and superb musical character. How so? Super rich in overtones and excellent sustain. This pairs perfectly with a western red cedar soundboard. Cedar has a "broken in" quality, or a sweetness in sound that it takes other woods many years to attain. This is part of why the RTSH cedar top is such a great tenor ukulele.

The other reason is that the quality of craftsmanship with Pono Pro Classics at this point is among the best available in any price range. Ko'olau regularly goes and works with them still and they are dedicated to excellence. The result is an unparalleled value in the ukulele world.

This Pono Pro Classic features a radius fretboard for the ultimate feel, and Hawaiian koa binding for extra beauty and style.

Displayed and protected by the cleanest gloss finish yet from Pono. This glassy smooth lacquer finish is extremely strong yet just a few thousandths of an inch thick. This "lets the wood really speak."

Pono only uses solid woods, only bone nut and saddle. wood bindings, no plastics.  They have a climate controlled factory on the island of Java and diligently aim for perfection on every level. It shows!

Comes with Hardshell Case. Photos and video are stock typical.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360 included humidifier for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18) or (OH-5+) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area (parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc.) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you heat the air in your house. For more info refer to the Ukulele Care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, then you also need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

A very good instrument!!! Worth every dollar...
This Pono is exactly what I was looking for what I wanted to pay. Pono fit the bill for a quality made instrument. I did my research to get a Hawaiian made ukulele you will have to pay 2K on up, I came very close with Pono! Music stores state side don't offer the higher end ukuleles. I wanted solid good wood with Ebony fingerboard etc. I have been a semi-professional musician for many years, so you know I am not a nubie. It is so well made, every detail is professionally executed. It plays really well, and the action is good. The radius which I didn't really want is really unnoticeable. The sound is really good and the intonation is right on!
Thank you and your team for getting this out to me before Thanksgiving...I would recommend your company in a heart beat.

Love it!
While a relative newcomer to uke, tone is hugely important to me. This uke has gorgeous tone and is incredibly playable all the way up the neck. It arrived with exactly the setup I hoped for. Loving that low G! On top of all that, it is a thing of beauty to behold.

Awesome Quality and Sound
I own a MPTSHE which is similar to these (maple instead of rosewood but with the same cedar soundboard). It is a highly crafted instrument with beautiful abalone inlay on the head and rosetta. The finish is flawless and very durable (no scratches after 9 months of playing). My Pro Series model also has the adjustable truss rod which I have not seen in other ukuleles. Mine is strung high G with Freemont strings and has a very rich sound. When I feel like plugging it in, the passive Pono pick-up has a very natural sound. I was initially skeptical of a Chinese built instrument, but was blown away when it arrived. Throw in the top end case, humidifier, free shipping and expert set-up and support from Hawaii Music Supply and this becomes a value-packed deal.

Bass, clarity, intonation. Excellent playability.
Got the RTSH5 and was very glad to have received a piece that had a nice white streak running down the centre. Build quality is great and intonation excellent. The sound is clear when finger-picked, and bassy when strummed. Great all-round uke!

Pono RTSCH....Solid Cedar Top, Solid Rosewood Back and Sides, Cutaway
When this arrived, I was really excited when I saw it....it's beautiful! The fit and finish are flawless, but the real beauty is in the sound. It has a very balanced tone. The lows, mids and highs sound perfect. I had mine set up with a low G, and the bass is great. The action was just right for finger-picking, but it's also good for strumming.

Andrew was a big help when I was trying to decide on this model, Thank you to the Ukulele Site for so much information and advice about all Ukuleles!
