Pono MGCD- Solid Mango Concert Deluxe

This is a fantastic new concert model from Pono. It has a beautiful instrument grade mango wood body that produces a truly sweet tone. This model is deluxe so it's upgrades are the gloss finish, ebony bridge, Macassar ebony fretboard, and the deluxe tuning keys.

Mr. Fujimoto slices up a raw sound sample so we can all taste this mango. So sweet..

This instrument was built on the Indonesian Island Java by Ko'olau 's talented Pono craftsman that just keep impressing us more. The build quality is professional and the tone is warm and punchy.

More relaxed in tension and lighter in projection from a tenor, concert size ukes can really hit the spot. This model sounds wonderful and the glassy lacquer finish really shows off the wild patterns in mango.

Photos and video are stock typical.

    Options

When you buy this ukulele you can get a UkeCrazy gig bag canvas covered hard case at an additional discount.  (Not required but suggested.) The UkeCrazy gig bag and canvas covered hard case case can be seen in our cases category under the accessories tab at the top of this page. One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area.(parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info refer to the ukulele care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, then you also need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Put a note in the special instructions if you need to or would like to let our setup or shipping department know anything.

Love my new ukulele; happy I bought it here.
(Context: I'd say that I'm an intermediate level player; this is my first big ukulele purchase; I've had it for about a week now.)
First thing first: I love it. The level of quality has completely met - and surpassed - what I expected. (Haven't found any flaws/blemishes yet.)
The minor surprises were that it's not as dark as the one in the stock picture; that said, it's still gorgeous.
Next, apparently Pono has changed to open back Grover keys here (gold body, black knobs), so you're not necessarily going to get closed-back Pono Deluxe keys. Very happy to have Grovers; still would have bought it had the pictures been updated.
Very positive purchasing experience; Zach's great at customer service.
Happy; satisfied; will definitely come back for a second purchase.

Great sound and play-ability, beautiful and well setup
I've had this Ukulele for a couple of months now. I have UAS and own a lot of Ukuleles, some inexpensive, some quite pricey.

My Pono MGCD has become my preferred daily practice instrument. It sounds great, the intonation is perfect, and the setup was excellent. Very easy to play and very responsive. The sound is warm and loud for a concert (Worth Clear strings).

The ukulele itself is gorgeous. The finish is immaculate, and wood grain stunning. I love the look.

Very happy with the purchase and the service. I bought the Kanilea Islands Premium Tenor from HMS since then. It's my best sounding Uke by far and absolutely stunning. Still, I find myself reaching for the Pono when I want to spend a few minutes just playing around or practicing.

    Not quite worth it...
For the price the ukulele is pretty nice. But it'll add up quickly if you decide to add stuff to your order.
The sound is very sweet and "airy".

The set up was alright, I think the g and the A strings have a little bit more much tension. Also my request for different strings wasn't acknowledged, but its fine.
The ebony fretboard looks more like rosewood to me, so I don't think that there was much of an upgrade aside from the gloss finish and tuners. The fretboard also doesn't look as wild as it does in the pictures. I can also see a little glue residue at the end of the fretboard

    The packaging was excellent.
I ordered the ukulele online so I didn't get to see the uke personally.
When I examined the uke, I found a few cosmetic small dents on the side of the fretboard. I was a little disappointed because I payed for a new uke and expected a new uke but it seemed a little used.

Overall, the ukulele is okay. I don't think that the upgrade is worth +$100.
