*** I'iwi Custom Bearclaw Spruce/ Pau Ferro Tenor ***
This is a gorgeous new custom from Charlie Fukuba with beautiful woods. This is the first single hole I'iwi tenor we've seen and it sounds and looks great. It's a bearclaw spruce top and an exceptional set of Pau Ferro also known as Bolivian Rosewood for the sides and back, and it's framed off with bloodwood binding. Very nice on the eyes and these woods really give a perfect balance to the deep rich I'iwi tone.
Charlie Fukuba is a musician and he builds for tone. With I'iwi you get a warm, clear sound that plays true all the way up the neck. This one sounds incredible! Kalei and Corey give it a sample.
Bearclaw is Sitka spruce but a little bit stiffer and, for this reason, it is one of the most desirable soundboard tonewoods. Charlie includes separately a clear pickguard to protect the areas your hand will strum and rest. This allows you to play more freely without fear of damaging the top. As great as it looks, this is a players uke.
The sides and back feature a South American hardwood, Pau Ferro. This wood has similar properties to rosewood and adds to the richness of tone on this instrument.
Abalone pearl inlays make the fretmarkers and I'iwi bird at the headstock. This is a classy tenor equally beautiful in look and sound. The design with its three small sound holes lends itself to the rich guitar-like tones many of us love to hear. This is what Hawaii's top custom builders usually aim for: a big, warm, yet clear and projecting sound that sings. I'iwi does this so well and this is certainly one of the best we've experienced.
Other things to note is comfortable feel and spot on neck angle and setup. Plus you get the long-term stability of a graphite rod in the neck and Charlie's new mortise and tenon bolt on joint. It also has a hand rubbed gloss finish and Gotoh UPT tuners.
Our package includes a deluxe wooden hardcase and Oasis humidifier.
