This is a beautiful new Hawaiian made custom tenor made by Charles Fukuba here on our island. The sound is awesome! One of the best we've ever heard. This is partly because of this Torrefied spruce top. Many custom builders are praising this wood and every time we have experienced it it's truly special. For those not familiar this is taken from the Stewmac website,
About torrefied wood
It takes years for a new guitar to break in, to develop its tone and realize its full potential. As tonewood ages, its cell structure goes through changes, becoming much more resonant and responsive. After a few years, you get the payoff: you begin to hear the sound of a vintage guitar. With the introduction of torrefied woods, professional builders are giving their guitars a head start on tone. The wood is heat-treated in an oxygen-free kiln, making it highly resonant and extremely stable. It's as if the wood is pre-aged. It looks and sounds like wood that's been broken in for many years.
This tenor has fantastic response and projection but also that "broken in" warmth you hear in the best aged instruments. Coupled with this beautiful blonde Hawaiian koa wood it makes for an exceptional I'iwi we are proud to show you.
Corey gives us a sound sample. Pictures and video show the exact instrument now available!
The three smaller sound holes provide more soundboard. Add in the dreadnought shape and this very cool new process of aging spruce with the torrefied top and this I'iwi has wonderful depth, sustain, and a full spectrum of tones and overtones with clarity and power.
