Gloss Mahogany Tenor Engelmann SpruceTop w/Radius Fretboard

This Pono model, like the Pro Classic tenors, has a radius fingerboard. It's hardly noticeable, but for many it adds to the comfort and playability of the instrument. On top of feeling great, this new tenor looks beautiful! A perfect gloss finish shows off the stunning quarter sawn Honduran mahogany. Rosewood binding and wood rope purfling frame off one of the favorite tonewoods of many acoustic enthusiasts: Engelmann spruce! The tonal character is sweet and clear on this wonderful ukulele. It's a joy to play and hear.

The new MTD-SP is basically a spruce top version of the MTD-2. It sounds great with low or high G tuning but this sound sample is in low G.

This is a completely dry, unprocessed sound sample review.

The precision workmanship and attention to detail delivered by Pono's top builders is among the best in the world. Experience the new Pono!

Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360 included humidifier for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area (parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc.) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info refer to the Ukulele Care link at the bottom of this page.

Another option is to switch from high G tuning to low G tuning (like in the video) . not sure which you want? Check out this blog article: High or Low G?

Put a note in the Special Instructions if you need to or would like to let our setup or shipping department know anything.

After adding this instrument to your cart, you can still create your own package by adding a case or accessories from the website.

Under the Accessories tab you can also customize this instrument by adding strap button(s) or your choice of pickup for plugging in.

Get a free shipping quote by adding this to your cart. If your cart reaches $400 dollars or more, orders to the US will receive free UPS 2 day shipping. Two days is the time in transit. Your instrument will first go through our setup department so that you get the best instrument for your money. For more information on our setup process, turnaround time, shipping, and return policies, refer to the links below at our footer.

All Pono tenor and baritone ukuleles come with a lightweight dual action adjustable truss rod. This video explains that feature and gives directions if you ever need to adjust it.

Solid build and playability
It’s very difficult here on the East Coast to walk into a music store and have a variety of ukuleles to choose from. So I ordered this one because I wanted a step up from my Kala SMHT, without really knowing because when you order online you just don’t know. At first, I found it a lot more heavy duty and “chunkier“ than my Kala. For example, the neck is a lot wider, with a larger radius than my color Kala, which I now realize is quite delicate. I called the company and Veronica pointed out that the neck has a truss rod which of course accounts for the bigger size than I was used to. At first, I was put off but I decided to really give it a chance and I’m glad I did. It may not be delicate but the build is really solid. It’s just different from what I was used to. After playing my instrument for a couple of weeks I find I’m really starting to love it. I love now the smooth neck and the way my hand can just move up and down, and the sound is so full and rich as well as bright, if that makes any sense. It’s really growing on me. I highly recommended in this price point, and the Pono passive pick up has great gain.

Pretty and quiet uke
My wife favorite ukulele....because its so quiet. Quieter than any other ukulele i have. It almost seems like it was designed to be played in a dorm or a tiny apartment. Very good build quality, hoping something changes with time and new strings.

This is the 1!
I had a MT on order when this beauty showed up in the inventory. One listen to Aaron's demo and I knew that this was my ukulele. Called Andrew and asked if it was possible to change my order as I had anew love. He was very helpful and got me set up with the MTD-SP.
We are forming a ukulele group in our neighborhood and when I showed her to the gang, there many comments on its fantastic build and sound. Now I have to really work on being worthy of such a fabulous instrument. Thanks to everyone at HMS for their help.
