Ono ukuleles are made in Ashland, Oregon by David Ingalls. He made us this ukulele with a master grade Sitka spruce top and gorgeous curly koa sides and back. It's framed off with bloodwood binding and has the rare Hawaiian ko'u wood rosette.
This is a new and super attractive new shape and design from David with a more rounded body, sleek new cantilever, and soundhole placement. The water-based gloss finish is super beautiful and the epoxy finished neck has a wonderful, smooth feel for sliding up and down the neck.
The sides and back were done in a two-piece koa and mahogany laminate. This is not time-saving or cost-reducing. David introduced this aspect to his builds for the same reason some of the top high-end Classical builders do this, for the tone.
The tone on this one is just fantastic. Awesome projection and sustain, and a powerful response everywhere on the neck. Take a listen!
Pictures and video show the instrument now available (if it says "In Stock")!
Our current sound samples are recorded for true reference and have no alteration or enhancement. Use quality playback for the most accurate listening.
So what is a 16" scale concert? It's a concert size body but with a one inch longer scale (length of the strings from the saddle to the nut) Concerts are around 15" and concert long necks, aka super concerts, have the tenor 17" scale. So this one sits right in between for a nice mix of the brightness and sustain that you get from a longer scale but with a more relaxed tension and warmth in tone.
This beautiful ukulele has David's cantilevered fingerboard, carbon fiber neck and bridge plate reinforcement, and a lovely gloss finished body and smooth satin neck. Another feature is the Gotoh 4:1 gear ratio tuners. They've become a favorite of our for their look, lightweight, and smooth precision in tuning and holding pitch.
This ukulele is extremely easy to play partly because of the 16" fretboard radius it has. This slight curve makes chording even easier and along with nice low action gives you an ukulele you can play for hours.
This is the full interview/podcast we just did with David Ingalls.
We are including an arched top concert wooden hard case which fits this uke perfectly! It also includes the Humistat humidifier that is upgrade-able in the options on this page.
