Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

When you buy this ukulele you can get a UkeCrazy gig bag or canvas covered hard case at an additional discount.  (Not required but suggested.) The UkeCrazy gig bag and canvas covered hard case can be seen in our cases category under the accessories tab at the top of this page. Other cases can also be chosen there.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18 or OH-5+) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area.(parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info refer to the ukulele care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, then you also need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Put a note in the special instructions if you need to or would like to let our setup or shipping department know anything.

After adding this instrument to your cart, you can still create your own package by adding a case or accessories from the website.

Under the accessories tab you can also customize this instrument by adding strap button(s) or your choice of pickup for plugging in.

My default ukulele
I have five ukuleles, from soprano to tenor and from laminates to solids. This is the one I play more than any other. She is a sweetheart and has an especially lovely tone with the Aquila red series unwound low G. The only drawback in my opinion is the slightly-wider-than-normal neck, which makes it more challenging on barred chords for me.

Fabulous!!
I am a total beginner and chose this uke as my first one because of its sound/tone. I am totally thrilled! The wood grain and color is more beautiful in person, and the craftsmanship is flawless! I looked it all over and its incredible. The sound it produces is beautiful, mellow, yet happy; it's not too bright, and not too muted (both important to me). It's very easy to play with HMS setup! I told them I was a total beginner and I can strum on it, and an working on 4 strum patterns, and 3 chords. I couldn't be happier! Oh, I have to add that I have very little in music background, nothing formal, but I'm having a blast with this!

Great cheerful and round sound!
Looking for problems for this uke might take some time. It is a beautiful instrument with both great looks and great sound. The cheerful sound of this concert uke has body and depth thanks to the solid mahogany wood. The only reserve I would express would regard the Aquila strings. I changed to Martin strings, and over the 8 months that I’ve been playing this uke, I noticed how the sound developed and became richer.

Great Sound and a Great Value!
This was my second Uke and my first solid one and I can safely say that this is an awesome instrument! I'm not sure how it played before the HMS setup. But I can tell you that it plays like a dream. My first Uke was purchased as a gift for me online from a shopping site and I can say that it played horribly. The action was way too high. When I got this I really appreciated how well it played. It was a revelation. It's really opened up well over the past 9 months and because of that I play this Uke daily!

Everything You Could Ask For
The MSC-4 was my first ukulele. It has been outstanding in every way. The fit and finish, while not the most over the top, is very good and there were issues at all. Coming from a guitar, I liked the slightly wider neck on the Islander, it gives me just a bit more room on the fretboard but that little bit makes a huge difference in playability to me.

The tone is outstanding, warm and full, and also quite loud for a concert body. For a solid body ukulele, the Islander is right up there with the best of them in my opinion. It holds it own!

Great Uke for a Newbie or Intermediate Player
This was the second Uke that I have owned after receiving a fairly cheap soprano for Christmas last year. All I can say is that this is my go to Uke now. The sound is incredible and it's very easy to play thanks to the HMS setup. I enjoyed it straight out of the box. But after I replaced the Aquila's with some Worth Browns the sound improved that much more. As is, I now have it strung with a Low G and can say the sound is warm and very soulful. I can't say enough about this instrument. It is an incredible value and I love it!

Highly recommended - for beginner or experienced player
A great product, with a perfect finish, great tuners, and a look both refined and simple.

I like: the precision (suitable for a good player), the sound (warm and loud enough), the look (a very beautiful instrument to own).

I did not like: the original Aquila strings. Now the instrument is set with Martin strings and it sounds much more bright and also gained in accuracy. A little bit heavier than koa concert ukulele.

Overall - Very highly recommended... with Martin or Worth strings.

A Concert Uke to Love
I've had my Islander Concert MSC-4 for a year now and truely love the warm sound she has. I've always enjoyed ukuleles and the Islanders are top of the line for me. One reason I like this one so much is because of the wonderful setup Hawaii Music Supply does on their ukuleles and they are so willing to do what you want done for your uke. As far as I am concerned Kanilea has a winner with this uke and we're all winners when we shop HMS!

Sweet soprano
This is such a lovely soprano. It's a great travel size for me, and has a much bigger sound than I expected. I've been playing for less than a year and last summer wanted a solid wood instrument that I could take on vacation and still enjoy playing at home. This was perfect!

Great Ukulele!
For the price, you can't go wrong with this ukulele. Exceptionally good tone, beautiful binding, wood, and inlay. I knew it was the one in the first few strums. I played a $1,000 Kanilea and for my ears, it didn't compare to this ukulele. Strange, I know.

Thanks for making my ukulele's action is so easy on my long skinny fingers, the strings feel like butter.
Hello Joel and Andrew, The Islander by Kanile'a MSC-4 arrived today as you promised. The beautiful solid mahogany ukulele sounds so sweet, I can't stop playing it. The action is so easy for me to play, the strings feel like butter. Now I can play it at the Kanikapila tonight. Thank you for listening to my comments and setting up the action that works so well for my skinny fingers!

I will be telling all my friends about what you have given to me in this purchase. Mahalo, Sneensnoy

A great little uke
Had this ukulele for a few months now. I wasn't happy with the local guitar shop options here in Virginia. Even in the $200-$300 range, the tone on local offerings seemed dull. I had to base my choice on the HMS videos, but luckily I found the sound to be pretty true. The tone is very rich and pleasing. I am new to the ukulele, but we have guitars, mandolins, violins, and violas in our house and I find the build quality to be quite good on this Islander MSC-4. I had some concerns since they are made in China rather than Hawaii, but they were unfounded. 4*s for quality just because this isn't a top of the line Kanilea. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
