Product Review (submitted on December 24, 2012):
If you're like me, you started playing the ukulele a couple of years ago without any prior skills, so a lot of your decisions are based on trial and error. If that's the case, Worth BMs will be a big step up from those fat white stock strings your uke came with. They'll sound more mellow and will be more comfortable to play.
The Pros:
Consistent quality (I've never received any duds).
Blend well when strummed.
Decent separation when plucked (especially bass notes).
Great feel -- smooth and easy to bend (my favorite aspect -- they're super comfortable).
Of course, the smooth feel and mellow tone come at a price...
The Cons:
Distinct Worth BM tone (I've found this can hold higher-end ukes back).
Note clarity (say, above the 7th fret) is OK, but not great.
Tension is OK (there's not as much attack as with other brands).
(Worth does make a "heavy" gauge to combat tension issues.)
Overall:
As somebody who prefers mahogany ukuleles and a mellow tone, Worth BMs are a solid choice. I still use them on my Ohana sopranino.
One final aside: changing strings was a big confidence-builder for me; it allowed me to connect with the uke and it helped me figure out what kind of sound I wanted. So, for any newbies reading this, buy some strings! You won't regret it.
Cheers.
