Product Review (submitted on March 8, 2014):

Unlike some folks, I like the Kamaka black strings BECAUSE they are higher tension/harder and give my tenor ukulele the PLUNK sound that makes an ukulele stand out. I have not got that plunk with other strings, and I've tried a number of other brands sold by HMS. I think Kamaka put the right strings on their tenor ukes from the factory, and I say that because, after the initial stretch period, which is unfortunately rather long, the black strings sound terrific, intonate well, and have good volume and tone, with that characteristic PLUNK. I don't need a 'warm' or overly bright sound. I need a sound that offers tone and percussion, and the black strings provide that very well. If you are avoiding the Kamaka blacks because of the harder feel on the fingers, then your ACTION is probably set too high, or you are using a shorter neck ukulele. The Kamaka blacks are my favorite strings on tenor ukulele. Tenors have longer necks, and that may be why the Kamaka blacks work so well on tenors..
