The CE Ko'olau has been used by many local professional musicians because of its feedback resistance, big warm sound, and extremely smooth feel. Now there is an affordable version and the quality is right on par.

This model is a satin finish with a solid chambered all acacia body. It comes with the excellent Pono passive pickup for plugging in or recording.

Along with a truss rod to fine-tune perfect action, it also features a radius fingerboard for a buttery smooth playing experience. The ebony fingerboard and bridge are stunning and the custom made hardshell case is the finest electric Ko'olau case to date. These are made in the Ko'olau Java factory and pickup installation and setup is done at our workshop right next to the Ko'olau custom shop in Wahiawa Hawaii.

The body is chambered for extra resonance while plugged in, a lighter weight, and that chambering gives it enough acoustic sound to enjoy and practice with it unplugged.

John Kitakis, owner of Ko'olau, has been working with his talented crew across the ocean every month! He is determined to produce a superior product and the finest materials are used. This one is from a one time run of stained woods.

If you would like a pro-level Tenor with top of the line live and recording capabilities, a unique and beautiful uke that you can play at night without waking up the kids, and bring on trips without taking up much space. If all that sounds good, then try the TE, we think you'll love it.

This is a tenor sized instrument and comes with a tenor hardshell case made just for it.

I haven’t had this much musical fun in years! Oddly enough, I play ukulele but my favorite genre of music is melodic death metal, so I have long been eager to merge the two. With this little guy plugged into Line 6 and Vox amps with appropriate effects, I really feel like a rock star! The fit and finish of the uke is on par with my Hawaiian-made solid koa ukes, and the set-up is flawless. The case looks great but is sloppily made, with a crooked arch top, loose covering, and oversized hardware that took some work with pliers to get lined up. I have an Oahu case for my Koaloha uke that is much, much better, but this one is designed for this thin body, so I guess I’ll keep it. Regardless, I am very happy with this purchase, and I can recommend it to anyone looking to take their ukulele playing into new territory. Although I haven’t played competitors like Risa or Vorson electric ukes, I am not going to keep shopping. This one is my keeper.

I bought this ukulele a couple months ago. All I can say is sweet. I love the radius fretboard it’s very comfortable to play the sound is great the fill is awesome. It even sounds good unplugged just so you know my ukulele’s name is uncle Leley. I love it and Zach was very helpful. Oh yeah it came with a custom case also like I said SWEET I was a little concerned about buying an instrument online without first picking it up and playing it but I think this was a very good choice . Uncle Leley and I are very happy thanks to all the people who got this instrument to me from the ukulelesite. Thank you all and special thanks to Zach Stay Strong David

An awesome ukulele. I can't believe the amount of sustain with this even when unplugged. the acacia wood is so beautiful, the action is just right, it's a true pleasure to play. I did have one little issue regarding the charger for the MiSi active pickup not arriving with the instrument, but Zach got on that right away.

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago from HMS when I was passing through Hale'iwa. I've been curious about this uke for a while now and when I had the chance to try it in store, it did not disappoint. Noah and Aaron helped me out and answered my questions. Good guys. I can't find any flaws with the construction or finish. No problems with intonation either. Same experience with my Pono MT. No hesitations recommending this uke to anyone looking to plug in. Mahalo HMS!

We have been looking for an electric solid body ukulele mainly for two reasons: 1. To practice quietly at night 2. To complement our acoustic ukulele playing with some screaming rock riffs now and then As we have always adored the Ko'olau CE-1, we were excited to hear that Pono now produces a much cheaper version very similar to it. As with our other Pono, the TE is built and set up very well. Like the more expensive models, it has a radius fretboard. The slim body makes it really comfortable to play. It is a bit heavier than an acoustic tenor ukulele, but still no problem to hold. Nevertheless, the strap buttons provided come in handy. Due to its chambered body, it is louder than one would expect unplugged. When being amplified, it produces a nice clean sound. At a high gain level, it can really scream as well. Yet, it sounds different from an electric guitar, as distortion fades away rather quickly. After all, steel strings and magnetic pickups do work quite differently than nylon strings and the passive undersaddle pickup of this uke. Anyway, using an amp and some effects, you can produce tons of interesting sounds with it. Last but not least, this ukulele looks really cool. Like a small electric guitar carved out of a single piece of wood. And with a satin finish, it feels that way too. The case it comes with is very stylish as well. All in all, this ukulele is a great addition to any collection!
