This all-mahogany tenor is a popular choice here. It has a wonderful sound and feels great, the essentials that every player needs to be passionate about playing. For a solid tenor in this price range, the MTDX is hard to beat.
If you want a "meatier" sound from your ukulele, or even if you have a really expensive uke but want something to take around that still sounds good, this is an excellent choice.

The tonal character of good mahogany has been loved since ukuleles first started being made. When built right you get a full mid-range with good clarity and warmth, just right for many players.
A key feature in all of the Pono tenor and baritone models is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. This is used to stabilize and adjust the lengthwise forward curvature (also called relief), of the neck. It can be adjusted from right inside the soundhole with an allen wrench provided. This is something you will probably not need to adjust. But over time and with humidity changes, it is a very useful option to have, and a very easy thing to adjust.

Pono's hit the price/performance sweet spot for me 0 people found this helpfulI picked up an MTDX second hand after HMS sold me my first Pono which I love so much. A classic, balanced tone wood that looks as rich & beautiful as it sounds with that high gloss finish they buff on there. A proper folk instrument, worlds better than the $100 laminated concert I started with. I always recommend others to check out a Pono if they're looking to upgrade, or are musician expressing interest in the Ukulele who knows they want a quality instrument. I love mine high G with Aquila Red's but I'm excited to receive my high-tension Logic strings to see how those feel.

Amazing Ukulele 0 people found this helpfulI have been playing on a laminate lanikai for the last several years and I have to say hands down this Ukulele beats it by leaps and bounds. This ukulele sounds absolutely amazing! I listened to the guys at HMS play a demo of this line of Ukes and also a couple examples on facebook and I have to say it sounds even better in person. I bought the Pono AS too, and got free shipping to Sydney, Australia - thanks again, HMS. These ukuleles are really well made, and sound fantastic, especially for the price. You could spend much more for one instrument than I paid for two, but I doubt you would get much of an improvement in quality.

Tops! 1 people found this helpfulVery simple in appearance - no frills. nice straight grain mahogany. Dont really like the tuners. I find they are a little bit tricky to use, which is the only reason I gave this uke 4 stars instead of 5. That aside... This uke has a beautiful sound that seems to get sweeter and louder by the day. pairing with some flourocarbon strings makes this a dream to play. Great service and setup by HMS!
