Kiwaya KS-1

This is the most basic soprano from the Kiwaya line. It is made with the same precision and craftsmanship as the more expensive ukes coming out of their shop in Japan.

Kiwaya Ukulele builders display an exactness and refinement that you rarely find in this price range. Most importantly, they build them to sound great. This is classic ukulele tone in a quality laminate ukulele. This ukulele proves you dont have to be solid to sound good, and you don't need to fret over humidity issues solid ukes come with. This is a famous ukulele for early ukulele sounds that brought its first popularity. Great for any style though, get one today and experience Kiwaya's value.

This is what Kiwaya says from their website:

Kiwaya Ukuleles are built as light as possible for tone and projection. Our craftsmen pay close attention to details such as intonation, action, playability and cosmetic appearance. Kiwaya Ukuleles are all made in Japan and are the only Japanese-built ukuleles available in the U.S. market.

Just like every ukulele at The Ukulele Site, we set up this ukulele to ensure you get the absolute best for your money! This includes saddle and nut heights, fret work and a thorough inspection for cosmetic or structural flaw.

An excellent, precisely made uke. I've enjoyed mine for about a year.

Bought this a few years ago elsewhere. Impeccable workmanship, very light construction, very thin fingerboard (1/2 the thickness of my other two sopranos). Uses thinner fretwire than I've seen on my other ukes. Compensated saddle. Great intonation, low action, loud, bright tone (with Worth Clear strings). Took about 6 months for the sound to fully open up. Fret markers on fingerboard at 5, 7, 10, but not markers on fingerboard side. Tuners are friction, so you may need to adjust the tension with a screwdriver, but that is par for the course. This is a great looking, great sounding uke, and you won't have to baby it as much because it is a laminate.

I won this uke at a uke fest. The sound is good for an all laminate... intonation is also good... Alas the tuners are just horrible ! it's very difficult to put it precisely in tune... the tuners are so cheap... I don't get it. Kiwaya should be ashamed. I used a screwdriver to tighten the screws and finally got an average "not so bad" tuning. Apart that this uke will endure any weather (laminate) and is a joy to play.
