Islander by Kanile’a – Solid Spruce Top/ Koa Cutaway Tenor Ukulele!

Pictures show the ukulele available here.

The KSTCUT-4 features beautiful woods and classy appointments like maple wood bindings and an abalone rosette. The smooth satin finish along with wood bindings and purflings make this a very attractive tenor.

Corey gives us a raw sound sample.

This one has the 1.5" nut width and a Venetian cutaway for easy access to the highest frets. The solid spruce top projects wonderfully and the laminate Hawaiian koa back and sides gives you some beaty from the islands. After our custom setup and free case package this is a deal you won't want to miss.

I'd been after a good high-G `ukulele for a while, and decided to buy it in person at the Honolulu store while on holiday in Hawaii, back in June this year. After trying this and several other `ukuleles, I settled on the Islander. Eli did a fantastic job of setting it up for me while I waited, and fitted it with Worth Clear strings at my request. The `ukulele has a beautiful clear, ringing tone that lends itself very well to fingerstyle playing, which is my preference. The slightly wider string spacing also helps with this. It also sounds really good when strummed. The Worth Clear strings give it more projection than the stock strings it was originally fitted with. The finish on the instrument is gorgeous, and the abalone ring around the soundhole add just the right amount of bling. I really enjoy playing this one, and can recommend it to anyone looking for a quality tenor `ukulele at a reasonable price.

I bought this uke from HMS based on Aaron's video. Never mind that I think he could string a brick and make it sound good, it was the sound I liked the best at a great price. I was not disappointed. It has a wonderful, smooth resonant tone that seems to be characteristic of spruce tops. Now this is coming from a rank novice with barely a year of practice. But if at least part of the purpose of a good uke is to make you want to play more, than this is the one you want. Thanks Aaron. You da man!

Got this for my sister's birthday. She was a lifelong guitar player but her guitars had been sitting in their cases for a few years. Since I stated playing the 'ukulele she wanted one and her first was a Koaloha super concert. She played that for a few months and then said she was looking for something with more of a guitar sound. I saw the demo of the Islander spruce top and bought it for her birthday -- she hasn't stopped playing it! she loves the projection of the spruce top. the cutaway allows her to play all the way up the fret board. The Islander is a great value. Less than half the cost of the KoAloha (she still loves the KoAloha sound) but it gets 99% of the playing time.

I love this ukulele. It's the only one I play now. I used to play a Kala. But, I like this one much more. It feels just like my Dad's Kanilea.

My son has been playing ukulele's for several years and he is a very good player. He has played in front of some very large crowds and is always well received. His Islander cut away Tenor is the only uke he plays. It has a MiSi pickup and strap pin installed. I love the fact that the Islander has a 1.5" nut like all of the Hawaiian made Kanile'a ukuleles have. Most imported ukuleles have a narrower nut. When my son upgrades to a Kanile'a Tenor the transition will be seemless because the Islander and the Kanile'a have the same dimensions. I also like the fact that Islanders are set up by Joe and his gang at Kanile'a and then double checked by Andrew and his gang at HMS, you are not going to get that kind of service if you buy an ukulele ANYWHERE else.
