"A marvelous twist of fate brought us this wonderful batch of spalted, flamed, maple wood for these beautiful ukulele. The amazing spalt patterns in this wood are incredibly intricate. We have paired it with a solid, Sitka spruce top and mahogany binding on the back and sides of these lovely ukulele. They have a synthetic bone nut and saddle, custom tuners, solid mahogany neck with a walnut fingerboard and bridge. The sound is clear and bright with great projection."
The gloss finish is thinner than ever to let the wood “speak”. And it does. As you can hear in the sound sample, this tenor sounds great! It would certainly be a top contender for best tenor in the under $300 range. This is a big, clear sound with bell like tones than will have you loving every minute you get to play uke. For many people Spruce is the ultimate soundboard wood. It projects and gives a wide range of frequencies hardwoods can not. One of the great things about spruce is that the sound will improve for many years. This makes it more of a keepsake. Something that you will have for many years and will continue to get better.
If you were looking for a really great sounding and playing tenor at a reasonable price, this Kala FMTG is a wonderful choice. Not only is Kala coming with better quality than ever before, but after your uke makes it past our quality check, it is then significantly improved with a setup you would normally only get from a specialty repair or custom shop.

It tends to be quite bright, with plenty of sustain probably due to the solid cedar top. The craftsmanship is excellent as well. Here's to Kala for a job well done with this beautiful instrument!

Just buy it already! 1 people found this helpfulMy first Ukelele, so I can't comment on anything other than HOW MUCH I FREAKING LOVE THIS THING! I have been around musicians all my life, and have never wanted to play anything before I picked this ukelele up. It felt so perfect in my hands, never wanted to put it down! Sounds beautiful and holds it tune quite well which is good for a beginning like me, I don't have to fiddle much.

This one is a keeper. 1 people found this helpfulThis is a beautiful ukulele with an amazing sound for the price. It has brilliant tone, and with a solid spruce top it will only get better with age. I had mine set up with Worth brown low-g strings and IMO they compliment it perfectly. With the setup it plays like a dream, and the spalted maple is gorgeous. I would definitely buy this one again.

The second one I purchased online from Hawaiian Music supply, and I highly recommend doing business with these guys. The set up they did before shipping meant the uke arrives ready to play, I only had to adjust the tuning and play. (all new strings will need some adjustment for a while) The ukulele being setup means will have the correct intonation and no issues with playability. Kala ukulele has a great product line of beginning to intermediate level and above, their products are good value oriented instruments and I can recommend them to anyone. Keep strumming. Grandpa Bob.
