This tenor has a big warm tone and after our setup work is a smashing value! This is like their MT-4 but with added top and back tortoise binding framing it off as well as the rosette. Features the classic Kanile'a pin bridge and headstock for a wonderful look.

The Islander also has the Kanile'a 1.5" nut width of allowing a little more space when compared to the 1 3/8" most companies do. That aspect makes it popular for those with larger hands or just players that want more space for chording.

Mika gives a raw sound sample.

If you are looking for an attractive and affordable tenor ukulele with a full tone, this Islander MT-4-RB may be just right!

"The Islander Mahogany Series Ukulele offers a very bright yet balanced traditional Hawaiian tone that is so synonymous to this wonderful instrument. Our time-honored approach allows these instruments have a very clean, authentic ukulele look to them."

What is our "setup"? We don't make these ukes, but we can make them better! This includes saddle and nut heights, fret work (planing/ recrowning/ polishing), intonation checks, and a thorough inspection for major cosmetic flaw. You can usually find some kind of sign of human construction with these, so if you're super picky about that, this might not be your perfect uke. But we first weed out any obvious cosmetic or structural issues, and with our full setup these are a joy to play.

I have been playing ukulele exclusively for 5 years now. I sold all my guitars when I caught the bug. I have tried just about every brand out there so I understand the difference between junk and craftsmanship. I own a chambered body baritone Pono, a jumbo baritone Pono both in the upper price range for most casual ukulele players at over $500.00. I own an intermediate Kala SHMB around $300 which has been my everyday workhorse. I needed a trusty but inexpensive Tenor to keep in the studio for my students to try out for size. It needed to 1) stay in tune 2) have decent action. 3) sound acceptable. All in all I was just looking for a beater. WIth the full setup from The Ukulele Site I was completely blown away. The fact that this Islander is only $150 is insane. It arrived today and it plays like buttah! The wood is beautiful with a nice inlay. The sound is warm, clear, with plenty of volume. I would rank Islander right up there with most of the intermediate brands out there in the $200-$300 price range. It definitely can hold its own or one-up most Kala, Alvarez, Lanikai, Oscar Shmidt, or like models. I've been searching for a decent beginner brand that doesn't suck. I've bought and returned so many ukes that just didn't deliver. Please don't bother saving a penny elsewhere. If your looking for a quality starter or just a nice second, third, or fourth uke to sit around, Islander is your brand with the craftsman set up from the crew at ukulele site.
