I was first attracted to this instrument because of its beautiful Koa wood, but when I heard it I was sold. I listened to others, but this one stayed with me. Its tone is so sweet and mellow. It makes my heart melt to hear it. It’s a joy to play and the intonation is great. The gig bag is terrific and is able to hold all my gear and is comfortable to wear as a back pack. This is a lifetime instrument, one that can be passed down to others. I’m looking forward to a long and lasting relationship with this beauty.

Some more than others and This Kanilea is always on my ukulele stand easy to reach. Just picking simple melodies softly then heavy strumming to songs makes me happy I have a Top of the Line Ukulele. If you like to play Music....Then get the best you can afford because it will make you happy. It will be worth years of enjoyment Believe me...

I searched and researched for the longest time. When this became available I jumped on it and have just been thrilled. I've tried a variety of string sets and there are some immense differences just as you'd expect. I really like the Worth Browns but generally play by myself and softly. This instrument sound wonderful whether strumming or picking and sure is a looker! This has brought me great delight and I look forward to years more. The Hawaii Music Supply folks couldn't have been more helpful and their assistance has been most appreciated. Having several music stores in town with a fair selection of ukuleles I found that the breath of the selection/service/knowledge at Hawaii Music Supply and it's fabulous comparisons made me want to purchase there Great Uke at a competitive price! After playing for a few years and playing many ukuleles, I decided to purchase my dream ukulele. I tried many including Kamaka, and Koaloha. This Kanile'a was the best sounding and looking of the Hawaiian made koa ukes I tried. The gloss finish is amazing and really brings out the look of the koa. Playability is excellent with spot on intonation and a fabulous feeling fretboard. However, it was the sound that sold me. This uke sounds as good as any ukulele I have ever heard.

It's hard to be critical of great-sounding instrument that also happens to be gorgeous... I bought this model after trying it out at a couple different stores, as well as the same model without the gloss finish. It's got a nice warm sound, which then got even more playful and punchier when I changed to a set of d'addarrio strings. The profile is a tiny bit wider and shallower than my other uke, which is still taking a little getting used to. The action is also high enough that it's easy for me to buzz on barred chords if I'm not fretting them tightly enough. I wanted a pickup too, and got the one installed by Kanilea itself (as recommended). It's nice and loud, picking up everything -- though does not include volume/tone controls, since they didn't cut into the wood on the side of the uke to install it... just only little hole at the bottom.
