Sounds great but doesn't look like a solid wood instrument
I love this uke. I put it up against a Collings tenor and the notes are louder, clearer, and deeper. Maybe I got a special one. However, the wood looks like plastic to me. It doesn't look as good as it sounds. Also, after playing for a while the upper bout where my hand lands after strumming looks like its building up oil as there's a shiny spot there. I tried wiping it down after playing but it may be me rubbing the satin finish to a gloss.

If you're moving up to an all-solid instrument, this is a great option.

Great looking uke with excellent sound
The Kala SMHT solid mahogany was my first ukulele and I've had it for about a year now. I had narrowed my choices down to either the Kala Solid Mahogany or the Solid Acacia Tenor. The folks at HMS were very helpful in responding to my questions and offering their personal opinions regarding the two ukes. I haven't been disapointed in my choice. The ukulele sounded great when I first got it and it just seems to keep getting better with the passage of time. It has a simple but elegant look to it with the solid mahogany body, the simple rossette around the sound hole and the Rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

Beautiful Sound, Classy Look, Excellent Value!
I've owned this ukulele for a little over ten months and I couldn't be happier! The setup that was done is superb and I can tell that it truly brought this instrument up to a new level. This is a simple looking ukulele but by no means is it plain. The mahogany grain is gorgeous and I really like the amber finish. As others have said, and can be expected from a mahogany instrument, this ukulele has a warm tone but in my opinion still very pronounced with some "punch" to it - even in the higher register. The notes just seem to pop. In fact, the open E string has a little too much pop and when strumming a chord it tends to be louder than the others if you aren't careful with your strumming. Regardless, in my opinion this is the best value for the money. I have a number of ukulele students who own various brands of ukuleles in the sub $500 range and this one beats them all with clarity and evenness of sound, projection, and playability. Once again, the professional setup was integral to getting this ukulele to perform at its best. Thanks Hawaii Music Supply!

Great Uke For The Money
You'll be hard pressed to find a better uke for the money. This one projects well and it's loud! Real nice tone and it's easy to play, too! I love playing rhythm blues on this uke while my brother plays harmonica.

Excellent value
Got this ukulele so that I could try a low g string. I have found it to be very well made and sweet sounding. Seems to focus on the low-mid tones. Has a classic look that is not too flashy.

Perfect first upgrade!
I have been playing for three months. Correction, learning for three months. I started with a pineapple soprano purchase elsewhere and learned a few things. I started my search having decided I wanted a tenor. I looked at a zillion different sites and ukes. I was leery about buying this online. Reviews from many locations raved about the set up and customer service at the Ukulele Site so I had confidence to move forward. The demonstrations you ate able to view are priceless. After narrowing to three I called directly and was given amazing pressure free advice. They really want you to enjoy your purchasing experience, but even more, the want you to learn and love to play. My uke is great, will buy my next from here as well.

Definetly One of the Best Ukuleles in the sub $300 Range
Ordered this over the phone with MusicGuyMic and got it setup with Worth Browns High-G. Beautiful ukulele through its simplicity, nothing too flashy, the minimal appointments really make the ukulele look nice. However the sound! Super warm, especially with the Worth Brown strings, and I know the tone is only going to get better over time. However it's still very very loud, I play with guitar players often in local library acoustic shows and it's still heard over the others. The HMS setup further compliments the value of this uke! To be honest I was going to get the Islander Solid Mahogany Tenor originally but it was out of stock, but for the same price I was able to get this Kala with Worth Strings and paid shipping so I have absolutely no regrets! Truly an outstanding instrument!
