An Exclusive Kala Model made for The Ukulele Site!
We have been serious fans of the solid cedar top models in Kala's line. We asked them to combine that with the striking beauty of their Ziricote line. This exotic hardwood is a three-piece laminate, but carries all the look of a super high-end custom instrument and the sound of this tenor is absolutely fantastic! The volume is exceptional and it has that "open" quality you can get with a high quality solid western red cedar top.
This model also has a cutaway body for easy access to the highest frets and an active pickup system. The pickup has an onboard volume and EQ as well as a tuner which is very convenient. The battery compartment is also conveniently located on the side of the instrument. It's amazing what you get with this tenor for the price!

Other features include a slotted headstock which boldly displays a zircote faceplate and wood logo, and Padauk binding on the top, back, and fingerboard. This design and wood choices on this tenor contrast and complement each other for a truly beautiful instrument.

Gorgeous ukulele 2 people found this helpfulI just got this ukulele, and I'm loving it so far. It is an absolutely gorgeous ukulele, it looks even better in-person than in the pictures. It has a nice sound and plays very well. The built-in tuner and cutaway are nice to have. If you're looking for a unique tenor ukulele, this may be the one for you.

Wicked cool ukulele 2 people found this helpfulI have "a few" ukuleles at my home. UAS is in residence here! I didn't have an electric uke and fell in lust with the acacia version of this instrument when a member of the ukulele group I play with, brought one in one day. I loved everything about his ukulele except for the acacia back and sides. Don't get me wrong here, they were beautiful, just not my taste. I wanted one...badly, acacia be damned!! I just didn't want to be a "copy cat' with my uke. He and I play in two different groups and this ukulele fits right in with both. Our other group is a veterans' rock band kind of thing. We're a bunch of senior veterans who always wanted to be rockers, and so (at least in our minds) we are. There are a couple of songs that elude me when I pick up my guitar. Now, I have that wicked little Kala that I can plug in and fill the musical gap. At first I was a wee bit disappointed that the ziricote had no blonde streaks in it. But the more I looked at it, I fell in love with the deep, rich brown color. It goes perfectly with the cedar. It came to me set up perfectly (as always), and ready to play right out of the box. I lead the songs with the ukulele group and this cool uke helps me be heard. I cant say enough good about this ukulele. Okay. Enough. I'm pau.

Excellent instrument 1 people found this helpfulThis is a really nice ukulele. It feels solid, and sounds crisp and clean. The binding in the pictures look red, but in person, it is a warm reddish brown color. It looks quite nice, and goes really well with the rosewood back and sides. This ukulele is worth the money I spent on it. I will say though that I was only willing to get a Kala from HMS because of there set up process. Imported instruments, even though better than they used to be, are not always consistent. Kala is no exception to this rule. Mine plays like a top notch ukulele with the included set up. I am very pleased.
