The AT has been a hit for the last decade, but this latest version looks and sounds better than ever! It now has an ebony bridge, fingerboard, and faceplate. The sound is warm and full with wonderful projection.

Acacia is part of the same family of trees as Hawaiian Koa, and it comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands, with hands-on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. The finest instrument makers construct these instruments to Ko'olau specs and design. This satin finish is very clean. The woods selected for this model are beautiful and instrument grade, as well as cut and dried properly.

A key feature, in all of the Pono tenors and baritones, is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. The truss rod stabilizes and adjusts the lengthwise forward curvature, also called relief, of the neck. It can be easily adjusted from inside the soundhole using the included allen wrench. Over time and with humidity changes this is a very useful option to have.

Full disclosure. I began playing the ukulele last year when the corona virus lock down was in full swing. I started on my grand daughter's very inexpensive soprano uke, and had never played a ukulele before. Regardless, I was impressed with the ease of learning the basics and found myself playing tunes within a week or so. In short, I was (and remain) hooked on ukes! After some months I had upgraded to a nice pineapple laminate mahogany soprano, a slightly better than entry level tenor uke and a solid bamboo concert (the latter being by far the nicest of the three, but that is another review.) But I had come to realize that I wanted to move up to a quality, solid body tenor. Like many enthusiasts I had questions about what would suit my needs. I was undecided on what kind of tone wood I wanted, what kind of strings, even what brand I should buy. This lead me to extended online research, and to multiple ukulele sites, some good, some not so good, and some outstanding. The Ukulele Site was, for me, the very best of them all. As my choice of brand narrowed down I found that Pono was rising to the top. Almost every review I found was very positive, and the commitment to building a quality instrument is impressive. So after deciding on brand I needed to resolve the tone wood and strings questions. Thankfully The Ukulele Site had posted outstanding videos that addressed both my questions in depth. I finally decided on acacia for the wood, namely because it is similar in sound to koa which many consider the classic ukulele wood. After making that choice I decided on the Pono AT model, Pono's most affordable solid wood line. (Pono also offers a mahogany and mango tenor for the same price.) This left the question of strings open, and to get some advice I had a series of email conversations with the staff at TUS. I told them what kind of sound I was after and was sent three excellent suggestions along with links that would provide me with audio samples. I considered that to be outstanding customer service. I ordered my Pono with the UkeLogic fluorocarbon strings, the only change I made from a stock order. And making things even better The Ukulele Site offers an in-depth set up for no charge for instruments costing $399 up. When my ukulele arrived I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. In appearance the Pono AT is understated elegance. The satin finish is excellent, the build quality is outstanding. The instrument's balance is flawless and the action is everything I hoped it would be. I don't know how much the extra set up work helped, but playing this ukulele is a joy. For certain playing fluorocarbon strings after playing Nylgut strings exclusively for about a year and a half does feel different at first, but overall I love the clarity and tone of the ProLogic strings coupled with the Pono's solid acacia wood body. The ukulele simply sings. That the Pono AT comes with quality Grover geared tuners makes tuning a breeze, and the strings are sitting in and staying in tune without much hassle. I've owned my Pono now for more than a month, and still get a thrill every time I take it out of its case! Because of its wonderful action and sound I find myself looking forward to sitting down and practicing every day. This is an instrument that makes it easy to grow as a musician. In closing I highly recommend Pono ukuleles. Their price range is hard to beat for the quality they offer. And I also highly recommend working with the staff at The Ukulele Site when you purchase your next Pono (or for that matter any brand they carry). Their advice resulted in my buying a ukulele that met or exceeded all of my objectives.

Very satisfied with this Uke, Pono At Acacia Tenor. No Pono's where I live (Denver), so I couldn't compare mahagony or mango versions. Mine came with free hard case for $399, which is pretty amazing. I have a 2011 Ko'olau KC Concert (basic model) satin finish and I must say the workmanship on the Pono is probably even better, if you can believe it. I had the Pono AT strung with low G (wound metal G&C), but didn't like the squeek so changed to Fremont "soloist" polished low G string and a flurocarbon (Oasis) C string. I got this Tenor to play around with low G and am loving it. If you change the strings on low G don't forget, low-G note is G3: 196hz. A high-g is G4: 392hz. The volume might not be as loud as say a KoAloha, but I don't see how the sustain could be any better. If you're looking for a daily player for low money, this Uke can't be beat, especially with the Hawaii Music Supply spot on full set up. So in summary, maybe not the prettiest or loudest Ukulele, but for the money I really don't see how there can be any regrets. I love this Ukulele!!! Just get it and take the extra time to get full set

Just got this beauty about two weeks ago. I have played it everyday since and am improving pretty quickly. My last uke was a gift, a Lanikai Lu-21 soprano. I played it pretty frequently. As I improved over several months I started to notice a significant buzz. I stopped playing the Lanikai because the buzz annoyed me so much. I've been waiting to upgrade for several years and finally decided to for my 40th bday. My initial budget was $300 max but after a bit of research realized that Pono was the way to go so increased by budget to afford the Pono AT. LOVE the tenor size. Got the stock stings; the wound C string took me a bit to get used to but now really like. Got a high G. I love feeling the vibration against my body. This thing really hums. Built up some calluses on my fingers so now try to play at least an hour a day. If your looking for something to love this one is great!! Everyone at HMS was great especially Zach! He was really helpful for me. Thank to everyone there and to Eli for a wonderful setup! I will be buying from HMS again! Right now I'm looking at the Pono Mahogany Slothead Tenor Pro Classic (MTSH-PC) for my next bday!

I have had this ukulele for about 4 months now and wow, it just popped into another level of sound. I don't know why, but the sound was just ok, then last week I noticed the sound changed and now is so good, I cannot go a day without playing. I love it. Thanks boys.
