Solid Acacia Wood w/Gloss Finish!

This is the new deluxe acacia concert from Pono. It features beautiful acacia wood with a smooth thin gloss finish. It's easy to play with a clear, sweet voice. Kris Fuchigami gives us a short sample.

Pictures show the exact ukulele available here. Video shows same model.

Acacia is a family of trees that Hawaiian Koa belongs to. This is not Hawaiian Koa but comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands with hands on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. These are constructed by the finest instrument makers and to Ko'olau specs and design. This Gloss finish and woods used on this model are gorgeous. We were happy to hear these, because they are impressive with tonal character!

I love my Pono it is so wonderful the color, grain, and workmanship it is just beautiful and it plays so well I can hardly put it down. I would recommend this to anyone. Also the ukulele site did a great job on the set-up I could not ask for better business than what I got with them thanks to all.

Build quality on par with my Ko'Olau concert. Both sound warm, Pono was not as loud. Overall good quality, without the price of a K brand.

This uke may be a bit quieter than others, but by no means "muted" or "blocked", as someone wrote here. Compared to our other concerts, it is in every aspect much closer to the Kanilea K1-C than to the Kala KA-C: Beautiful solid wood, impeccable gloss finish, clear ringing notes, excellent balance, perfect intonation. So if you are not ready yet to spend a lot more money on a Hawaiian made uke, this may be your best choice. You might, however, also consider a tenor from Pono, as we think their building specs are particularly favorable for larger instruments.

I was a little concerned of to buy from a store so distant, but during all process, the store staff was very attentive and my uke came on scheduled time. I'm very satisfied and the Uke itself, is a great instrument, very well finished and with a great sound. I'm impressed with the awsome sound for the price I've payed.

  5. Nice entry ukulele to the solid wood category 1 people found this helpful

In my search for a solid wood ukulele, this was one of my choice. When I hold it in my hands, it felt really solid built. The grains are nice! When I strum it, it sounded kind of muted. It sounded like the ukelele was blocked by a wall or something. The sustain wasn't obvious too. The neck is a bit thick for my liking. It feels like a miniature classical guitar neck if you know what I mean. I heard and read on the forum that the sound will change after some time and it will sound sweeter than ever. I guess it's a huge investment for me that's why I seek instant gratification and chose a Koaloha over it. Overall, this is a great build, solid ukulele. I'm sure it will mature over time and the sound would grow to be perfect to some individual. My friend's pono AC sounded pretty ok after playing daily for 4 months.
