Acacia is a family of trees that Hawaiian koa belongs to. This is not Hawaiian koa but comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the island of Java with hands-on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. Pono is made to Ko'olau specifications and design and we think you will appreciate the quality.
If you are looking for a great little uke, this soprano looks, sounds, and feels wonderful and is an awesome value!

Simply wonderful 0 people found this helpfulThis is a marvelous soprano ukulele. Pono's build quality would be hard to beat in this price range. The acacia on mine is a light golden brown with pleasing chatoyance on the back and the finish is flawless. The tone sounds great to me and the projection is strong. This little box can really vibrate and sings out loud and clear when you feel like it, turn the volume down and it will almost whisper in your ear. It begs to be played. Oh, and the setup by HMS was great, as promised!

Fun to play this soprano 0 people found this helpfulThis soprano is beautiful in tone and look. Acacia top side and back looks a little bit grayish compared to typical Koa but still very similar to it. It has bright and punchy tone that is the same character as Koa. The wood grain is so beautiful and the gloss finish is perfect. The body is firmly built and the intonation is just right. Perfect choice for this price range.
