a bit expensive, but I feel like it was good value, especially since they included free international shipping (value 120$), free setup (value about 75$ where I live) and a free case (about 50$)...Besides that, it's a really pretty instrument, the wood is very pretty, it's a real head turner. the abalone is nice, some parts are brighter than others, but it kinda depends on how the light hits it. overall I just like this instrument. it seems like a quality build and has a pretty tone, keeps in tune. I like the binding it definitely compliments the mango wood (and adds structural integrity), the gloss is perfect.

I was so impressed by the sound when I heard the video of Kalei Gamaio playing this ukulele, it decided me to buy it, though the price was quite high for my budget. But it was like a crush, and I had some unexpected money coming at the same time, so... After a few months I still can't decide wether it was a good choice or not... I changed the string from the d'Addario that were installed to Worth Clear in High-G (By the way, I ordered a set of Low-G : Guys in HMS, If you read me, I sent you mails weeks ago and you told me you would sent me the pack of strings I ordered... I'm still waiting for your answer). It improved the sound a lot, the original set of strings was beautiful for picking, but not for strumming. Well, it's still the same now with the Worth strings, even if strumming sounds less muddy. Dont misunderstand me, the sound is beautiful and nuanced when picking, but, I don't know why, when I want to play I always choose my KALA SMHT or my APC-ST soprano - or even my super Kala pocket soprano that I have since a few days and that I pick to play with all the time, which are for sure lower priced instruments. And when I play both KALA an PONO to my friends to have their opinion, they are 9 times out of 10 more seduced by the Kala... So, is it my playing that doesn't fit with the instrument ? Is it the ukulele in itself ? Plus, I had the occasion since to try many instruments when visiting London (I live in France) : A Kiwaya concert which i didn't like, a Big Island Tenor, a Kala Koa Elite and some other very good instruments... and mostly this incredible Martin 2T, light as a feather that plays like a breath, you know, the kind of instrument that makes you instantly want to play better when you pull the first string... I did not feel it with this Pono MGT-PC, it was the thing that confirmed my doubts about this instruments. I'll go on playing it for a few weeks, hoping the sound will open, but if it doesn't I think I'll sell it.

This was a significant upgrade from my used Cordoba. First off, hats off HMS for just being who they are. Excellent communication, prices and service. My Pono has beautifully figured Mango and is truly stunning. I was really going to buy the Kanilea K1 or K2 until I listened to Kalei play this Pono. He sold me. Now I can't play like Kalei but without any doubt this ukulele and the set up as immediately elevated my playing. This a durable and quality product. Looking forward to future purchases and thanks to Zach for keeping me updated. Thanks Uke Site/ HMS. Now if I can only find a way to Hawaii to visit the actual store...
