Beautiful Solid Mahogany and Western Red Cedar Top on this NEW Steel String Baritone. Pictures show exact ukulele available here.
This is a new and unique instrument from Pono Guitar & Ukulele. It has a 21.4" scale. It's shaped and braced like a mini guitar. This has a smaller body and shorter scale than a tenor guitar, but it's larger than a baritone. Pono describes the inspiration for their UL series guitars,
"In the 1800's guitar makers migrated from Europe to the eastern United States. Some of their first designs were what we today refer to as 'parlor' guitars. Big guitars were not yet on the market. The most common sizes had an 11" to 13" wide body width.
Small size guitars produce a sparkling tone, a chime, and somewhat of a natural reverberating sustain. In the early to mid 1900's a few guitar manufacturers produced similar size 'parlor' guitars. The Li'i is the body width of what was known as a Style 2, and the 'Uku Li'i a Style 5."
This instrument is a throwback to those first steel-string guitars, except with 4 strings. It's similar to a smaller tenor guitar, or, if you're more familiar with ukuleles, a larger steel string baritone.
This new model features gorgeous woods, rope purfling and rosette, top and back ebony binding, and a custom fit arched top hardshell case.
Pono only uses solid woods, only bone nut and saddle, and only wood bindings. No plastics. They have a climate-controlled factory on the island of Java. They diligently aim for perfection on every level. It shows!

Awesome Guitar that plays like an awesome Ukulele! 1 people found this helpfulThis is a fantastic instrument! The scale length is very comfortable for me as a mostly-tenor-ukulele-playing guy. I've looked at several tenor guitars, but most are too big, and almost all are entry-level build quality. I was really hoping for something better ... and here it is!
