Concert Bell Shape Deluxe (HB-2D Cedar Top)

Pictures AND videoshow the exact ukulele just now available.

Also known as the "Ohta-san" model, this bell-shaped ukulele was designed by Sam Kamaka, Jr. and Herbert Ohta in 1965. It produces sharp, clear tones, and was designed primarily for fingerpicking purposes.

Deluxe features are rosewood binding, rope purfling, and a rope rosette around the sound hole. The fingerboard and bridge are ebony. We finally have this model with a cedar top again and just like before, the sound is huge! Extremely rich, deep tones.

The HB-2 models are different than any other model you will find. The scale length is almost exactly halfway between a concert and tenor and the bell shape body adds to the depth of tone. What you get is a beautiful sound, especially with a cedar top. Corey gives us a sound sample.

This is one of the best sounding and playing  Kamaka's ever in the store and we are proud to offer this quality from the legendary Kamaka family! Get the only one available  and experience for yourself the wonderful tones of this rare cedar top Ohta-san Model!

We always include a humidifier with all solid wood instruments with an optional upgrade at a discount.

I have this model and purchased from HMS. What can I say, I have the utmost confidence in HMS after receiving my uke. It's hard to purchase such a high ticket item and one that has a lot of subjectivity to it at that due to how we all hear sound. The videos are the best in the business and really help you appreciate the capabilities of the instruments. About the uke: I find the scale perfect since its in between the concert and tenor. I can play songs easier than the tenor since I don't have to stretch as much but the sound is fuller than a concert. The low G set up is awesome too. I rated it 5 stars because, although you could spend less on a Hawaiian uke, I don't know of any with the beauty, sound, and unique scale of the ohta-San. It's a essentially one of a kind model.
