(Context: I'd say that I'm an intermediate level player; this is my first big ukulele purchase; I've had it for about a week now.) First thing first: I love it. The level of quality has completely met - and surpassed - what I expected. (Haven't found any flaws/blemishes yet.) The minor surprises were that it's not as dark as the one in the stock picture; that said, it's still gorgeous. Next, apparently Pono has changed to open back Grover keys here (gold body, black knobs), so you're not necessarily going to get closed-back Pono Deluxe keys. Very happy to have Grovers; still would have bought it had the pictures been updated. Very positive purchasing experience; Zach's great at customer service. Happy; satisfied; will definitely come back for a second purchase.

I've had this Ukulele for a couple of months now. I have UAS and own a lot of Ukuleles, some inexpensive, some quite pricey. My Pono MGCD has become my preferred daily practice instrument. It sounds great, the intonation is perfect, and the setup was excellent. Very easy to play and very responsive. The sound is warm and loud for a concert (Worth Clear strings). The ukulele itself is gorgeous. The finish is immaculate, and wood grain stunning. I love the look. Very happy with the purchase and the service. I bought the Kanilea Islands Premium Tenor from HMS since then. It's my best sounding Uke by far and absolutely stunning. Still, I find myself reaching for the Pono when I want to spend a few minutes just playing around or practicing.

Not quite worth it... 0 people found this helpful

For the price the ukulele is pretty nice. But it'll add up quickly if you decide to add stuff to your order. The sound is very sweet and "airy". The set up was alright, I think the g and the A strings have a little bit more much tension. Also my request for different strings wasn't acknowledged, but its fine. The ebony fretboard looks more like rosewood to me, so I don't think that there was much of an upgrade aside from the gloss finish and tuners. The fretboard also doesn't look as wild as it does in the pictures. I can also see a little glue residue at the end of the fretboard The packaging was excellent. I ordered the ukulele online so I didn't get to see the uke personally. When I examined the uke, I found a few cosmetic small dents on the side of the fretboard. I was a little disappointed because I payed for a new uke and expected a new uke but it seemed a little used. Overall, the ukulele is okay. I don't think that the upgrade is worth +$100.
