It's been years since we saw the all-mahogany Pro Classic baritones and we are glad to see the revised version Pono just came out with. The current production quality from them is certainly the best it's ever been and nothing shows that more than the new Pro Classics we just received.
This model has a beautiful quarter-sawn mahogany body and neck shown off with a gloss lacquer finish. This finish is very protective but is only about 3 thousandths of an inch thick so it doesn't inhibit the tone. The MBSH has ebony bindings and appointments and of course the classy slotted headstock. Includes the new improved wooden case from Pono for an excellent value on a baritone that's hard to beat at any price point. Only a handful of these came in so grab one now while we have them.
Noah Campbell came down to our workshop down the road to do sound samples and ended up singing Hokulea when he picked up the baritone mahogany pro classic. It is both pro quality and classic in tone. Here's a "dry" sound sample.
Comes with Hardshell Case.
Pono is a small crew of talented luthiers. They only use solid woods, bone nut and saddle. and wood bindings, no plastics. Pono has a climate controlled factory on the island of Java and diligently aims for perfection on every level.
All of the Pono tenor and baritone models have a dual-action adjustable truss rod. This is used to stabilize and adjust the lengthwise forward curvature (also called relief), of the neck. It can be adjusted from right inside the soundhole with an allen wrench provided. This is something you will probably not need to adjust. But over time and with humidity changes, it is a very useful option to have and an easy thing to adjust.
