Quarter Sawn Solid Mahogany Wood -satin finish

Solid Mahogany top, back, and sides. Rosewood faceplate, fingerboard and bridge. Rope marquetry rosette, pearl logo and position dots. Bone nut and saddle. Satin finish.

Pono's production standards are more exacting than your typical ukulele company. They are very involved in the building, and dedicated to making the highest quality ukulele you can find. This Pono MS is all solid woods, bone nut and saddle, and very high quality tuning keys. The sound is so open and warm that it competes in tone with high end sopranos! The feel is just right. Pono's production standards are more exacting than your typical ukulele company. They are very involved in the building, and dedicated to making the highest quality ukulele you can find. This Pono MS is all solid woods, bone nut and saddle, and very high quality tuning keys. The sound is so open and warm that is competes in tone with high end sopranos! The feel is just right. You can dig in for dynamics and it won't "crap out" like less expensive sopranos. With more attack it gets louder and more full! If you want a high quality, built to last a lifetime, soprano ukulele, - The Pono MS is for you! It has depth and character only a solid wood, professionally made ukulele can have.

Mahogany wood was used on almost all of the soprano Martin ukuleles. It has a classic tone that the ukulele became famous for. One thing to note is that these mahogany series Pono's are more expensive than the Acacia series ones. With most companies doing just the opposite, charging more for acacia, I asked Ko'olau why they did this. It's simple, "This is a very high quality Mahogany wood that costs us more than the Acacia wood, and many people prefer the tone of Mahogany over any other wood." This MS model is one of the best sopranos on the market. Come down to the store in Haleiwa or buy one from the site and experience this super fun soprano for yourself!

Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area.(parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info refer to the ukulele care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, then you also need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Put a note in the special instructions if you need to or would like to let our setup or shipping department know anything.

After adding this instrument to your cart, you can still create your own package by adding a case or accessories from the website.

Under the accessories tab you can also customize this instrument by adding strap button(s) or your choice of pickup for plugging in.

Get a free shipping quote by adding this to your cart. If your cart reaches $400 dollars or more, orders to the US will receive free FedEX 2 day shipping. 2 days is the time in transit, your instrument will first go through our setup department so that you get the best instrument for your money. Great Uke! Great experience! PONO MS Mahogany Soprano
This little fellow (lady?) is my go-to uke and has been ever since I got it a little over a year ago . It has great intonation, action, and play-ability (kudos to HMS for their professional setup) and I've used it whenever I've performed with a ukulele. I always use it when working out a new song because it is so user-friendly and I don't have to think about technical issues. It has a sweet tone that is great for romantic ballads but is hearty enough for Dixieland/Roaring 20's. Some ukes might be great for one style but not appropriate for others but this uke sounds like it fits for just about any style of music.
It's definitely worth the price. It is well constructed, cleanly assembled (no glue visible anywhere) and the satin finish is very handsome.
BTW, I got mine in early 2013 when it was on sale as "Blemished". It seriously took me about 20 minutes to find the "blemish", which was a slight scratch about an inch long on the back that you have to hold up to the light just right to see - and for that this Pono beauty was just a little over 1/2 price! If you're looking for a lot of bang for your buck be sure to check out HMS's specials! Especially if this one is on sale again. Then get two!

What's the opposite of buyers remorse?! 'Cause I got it!
This was my next jump from the Lanakai LU-21c I began with. While I’ll always love my first, the voice on this little soprano has me completely hooked. With the mellow mahogany paired with the set of flourocarbons that I installed, its got such a rich and articulate sound that is just so sweet and beautiful. And I’m actually completely digging the small size too, which I was unsure about, being a 6’4″ dude. And as for the craftsmanship, it feels so good and is quite easy on the eyes. And to top it all off, the fellas over at HMS just completely rock! I worked with Joel, Zach and Andrew. Helpful, humble and passionate about what they do. Thank you!

Surpizingly loud rich sounding soproano.
I was pleasantly surprised by how loud and rich that came out of this small uke. I took a chance thought I would install a low G string set and amazed how balanced the tone was on each string. I had tried this with other ukes that I had and was not happy with the sound. I found the peg tuners, although lighter, was difficult to tune compared with geared tuners. Over all I am very happy with the Pono MS and has become my favorite ukulele.

Incredible value
I purchased this uke approx a year ago from Hawaii Music Supply. The entire experience was a pleasure. The instrument's quality and professional set up actually made me sound better!
The wood quality is "simple beauty". The craftsmanship is solid. The finish is superb (difficult for satin finish) and the sound is top notch. I have natural gut strings which combine with the solid mahogany to give it a classic and clean sound. I continue to be surprised at the rich sound from a soprano.
I've owned more than 40 ukes. I will not say that this one is the best. I won't even say it is in the top 5. (Those are handbuilt, Hawaiian and solid koa) But I will say that I wouldn't give it up!
Great quality. Unmatched value. Nice sound. And the wood (along with my skills) will only improve with time. If you are not a pro on tour but serious about playing, this one offers great value.

The Sating Mahogany is STELLAR for its price
I drove out to the store on a rainy Friday afternoon, after doing extensive online research. I was toying with either an Islander (which is an excellent ukulele) or a Pono. Aaron was awesome in the store, just like he is on the videos! He has a huge knowledge base of the "eye candy" musical instruments in the store. He was very informative and a pure delight to deal with! I wanted to purchase a fine upgrade for my son's current soprano, without spending too much...and all I have to say after looking at all the other brands, and after many demonstrations and close inspection...the Pono Instruments they had in the store were it! I was sold! There is not a better instrument that I have looked at or found for its price and craftsmanship than a Pono. I chose the satin as they only had a deluxe with a pick-up which my son did not need or I would have bought one of those.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A REASONABLY PRICED HIGH QUALITY BEGINNER/EXPERT INSTRUMENT...LOOK NOWHERE ELSE! THE PONO SATIN MAHOGANY IS IT! THE SERVICE AT THE STORE WAS AWESOME!
