Only One Made of This Model!

This is from the Master Series Limited Edition run. Only one of this Cedar Ebony model was made and it's the one you can see in the pictures and hear in the video at this page. This series has a smooth and comfortable arm rest, a side sound port, and a western red cedar top hand selected by Ko'olau's top luthier Noa Bonk.

Other custom features to the master series includes the ebony wood rosette instead of abalone, and a new simple, but distinct wood logo inlay on the slotted headstock, and the radius ebony fretboard is nice and clean without fret dots, though it still has side dots so you know where you're at. This model also has a gloss body and faceplate but a satin neck for smooth sliding.

Macassar Ebony is one of the premier exotic woods used in high end custom acoustics. Even higher in cost than koa wood but the sound quality is undeniably choice. Clean and crisp, rich with overtones and singing sustain, and coupled with a cedar top, the tone of this macassar is absolutely perfect for what many look for. Cedar has a "broken in" quality, or a sweetness in sound that it takes other woods many years to attain. What I notice is that the Macassar adds defenition, projection, and reverberating sustain. And that's not to mention the looks.

All woods were not created equal and never has that been more evident. Framing off this body is exquisite curly maple wood binding with the classy arm rest. This gives a nice contrast that enhances the overall visual appeal. Also helping in that regard is the slotted headstock which is impeccably finished, even along the inner walls.

Many things give value to this one of a kind Master series Pono. Namely, the precision workmanship and skill level of these builders. It also shows a persistence for excellence that Ko'olau has shown. This is the pinnacle of that effort and now available in a limited run. With this model, just one was made.

This is a completely dry recording, it doesn't do justice to the live tone, but gives an idea of the tones you can get. This is with the Ko'olau stock alohi high G set with a wound 3rd string but if you would like a different set just let us know in the special instructions.

This tenor is displayed and protected by the cleanest gloss finish yet from Pono. This glassy smooth lacquer finish is extremely strong yet just a few thousandths of an inch thick. This is the art of uninhibited protection. Also to be noted is that Pono has kept improving and I would put the beautiful look of this finish up against ANY custom shop instrument. It's as flawlessly done as you will find now. And that is a first for Pono, even though improvements have been with each shipment. This last arrival honestly surprised me in quality. I think you will share my appreciation. This is the finest quality on the market at this price and we are proud to say that with confidence.

Pono only uses solid woods, only bone nut and saddle. wood bindings, no plastics.  They have a climate controlled factory on the island of Java and diligently aim for perfection on every level. It shows!

Comes in a very protective wooden arched top hardshell case made for it.

This was from our last Pono Factory Tour where John and Noa from Ko'olau designed this model and selected the woods.

Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

This includes the deluxe wooden Oahu Case is an excellent fit and protection for this ukulele.

Extra Options

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18). This is a must if you live in a low humidity area.(parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..) including cold winter areas if you are heating the air most of the day and night. For more info see our Ukulele Care link at the bottom of the site

With the purchase of this ukulele, the Pono passive pickup system can be installed.

None of these options are required. You can still create a package with accessories on the site by going to different product pages and adding to cart. This ukulele will automatically come with a Herco HE-360 Humidifier. The options are just for convenience and to offer an extra discount while you buy this instrument.

Put a note in the special instructions if you want it strung with a low G at no extra charge or any specific setup instructions(i.e. string for left-handed, I play light and like very low action etc....)

Setup Options

Current Turnaround Time: Amount of time it takes before shipment-

Full Setup: 10-14 Business Days

Basic Quality Control: 2-3 Days

BASIC QUALITY CONTROL covers inspecting the instrument for any major defects that would have been missed by the factory and any faults in construction that could potentially damage or limit the functionality of the instrument over time. Any defective instruments are rejected and replaced.  We make sure that each Ukulele meets the basic standard for a brand new instrument and will be ready to play once you receive it. A final cleanup is also included after inspection before packing and shipment.

Full Setup - FREE for all Ukuleles $399 and over / $20.00 for Ukuleles from $300-399 / $30.00 for Ukuleles Under $300

Includes:

-Overall QC evaluation: To find defects in construction as well as to get an overall view of the instrument and note the areas that need extra attention and adjustment during the setup.

-Saddle Adjustment: The height of the saddle is lowered to reduce the distance between the strings and the fretboard, making it easier to play than the factory setup, especially higher up the fretboard.

-Nut Slot Adjustment: The depth, width, and angle of the nut slots are adjusted to create a more comfortable playing experience especially on the lower frets.

-Fret Dressing: After adjusting the nut and saddle heights, high spots in the fretboard or uneven frets will potentially cause fret buzz, dead spots, or other unwanted problems. The frets are filed to create a more consistent level across the fretboard. We then crown the frets to return their rounded curvature back to the top of each fret creating a clear contact point for each string. We then smooth and polish the frets and condition the fingerboard to bring them back to new condition.

-Final Cleanup: We always do a final overall cleanup of the instrument to make sure it is in new condition and ready to play before it is prepared for shipment.

Rush Setup & Delivery - Additional $50.00
The RUSH SETUP AND DELIVERY service is for customers who would still like to receive everything included in the full setup but on a shorter time frame. One of our setup technicians will work overtime outside of normal business hours to complete the setup within 2-3 days of the order being placed and immediately hand it over to the shipping department for packing and shipment. The $50.00 rush charge is in addition to the cost of the full setup.

Additional services (see individual product listings to add these services to your order)
Re-stringing: We will replace the factory installed stock string set with a new set of your choosing. Select the “replace stock strings” option when adding your desired string set to the shopping cart.

Strap Button Installation: 1-2 buttons are installed to allow the use of a strap. Color options available.
