This is a solid mango pineapple tenor with a sweet tone and a unique natural look. The MGTP has a smooth and satin finish and ebony appointments for a simple but classy look. Kalei gives us a sound sample of the MGTP.

The tone of mango has the best characteristics found in both mahogany and koa. Paired with the pineapple body shape you really get a nice full sound with wonderful balance.

A key feature in all of the Pono tenors and baritones is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. This stabilizes and adjusts the lengthwise forward curvature (also called relief), of the neck. It can be adjusted from right inside the soundhole with an Allen wrench provided. Over time and with humidity changes, this is a very useful option to have and a very easy thing to adjust.

We always include a humidifier with solid wood instruments.

    Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

    Extra Options

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Humistat, included humidifier, for the slightly more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18) or (OH-5+). This is suggested if you live in a low humidity area.(parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air most of the day and night. Put a note in the special instructions if you need to or would like to let our setup or shipping department know anything.

This was my second ukulele I purchased from Hawaii Music Supply, my first being the Pono MS-PC, and I was not disappointed. I had it set up with a Low G, and it sounds beautiful.

While there was a delay in setting up and delivering my ukulele, this was handled very well by Zach...the service I receive from Hawaii Music Supply is going to land me in the poor house!

All kidding aside, if you are in the market for a tenor ukulele that looks and sounds great and is reasonably priced, this is the way to go.

Pineapple mango, sounds like a delicious fruit salad
We love Pono, we love tenor, we love mango, and who doesn't like pineapple? Here you can have it all in one package! We were completely blown away when we discovered this, ordered right away, and got the one pictured.

As good as the pics are, they can hardly give you a true impression of how unique the mango wood looks, since different grain patterns appear in every angle you look at it. Certainly not as beautiful as koa, but definitely very special. And it suits the pineapple shape perfectly!

As with all our Pono ukuleles, craftmanship is excellent. The special shape makes it actually quite comfortable to hold and play.

We ordered ours strung with low G. The two wound strings do sound rather "metallic" on it, however, so we will replace them with unwound Worth Clear strings eventually. We think they will suit the mango wood and the pineapple shape much better.

Since pineapples in tenor size are very rare to come by, the Pono MGTP will make a great addition to any collection. In fact, we hope Pono will continue to surprise us with diverse inventions like this one. How about a pineapple baritone?! Or a guitalele?
