Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

When you buy this ukulele you can get a UkeCrazy gig bag or canvas covered hard case at an additional discount.  (Not required but suggested.) The UkeCrazy gig bag and canvas covered hard case can be seen in our cases category under the accessories tab at the top of this page. Other cases can also be chosen there.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area.(parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..) or also areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info refer to the ukulele care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, then you also need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Put a note in the special instructions if you need to or would like to let our setup or shipping department know anything.

After adding this instrument to your cart, you can still create your own package by adding a case or accessories from the website.

Small dog, big bark!
Picked this little puppy for my wife after searching countless video & sound samples of sopranos - but we just weren't prepared for the tone & volume. Only one way to describe it: It's... ALIVE! From the start the tone is warm & woody, with a dry crunch - must be that satin finish Acacia. We were looking for that light, high-pitch 30s-style tone, but this packs a full-bodied punch with plenty of mid-range and bass. But it doesn't stop there; the tone evolves as we play it - seeming to really love warm, humid conditions and actually becomes richer and fuller. And volume? Ridiculous! It drowns out our solid mahogany tenor from a room away. The finish is clean, with a bold, organic grain that perfectly embodies its tone, and feels as smooth as the proverbial baby's... We did experience the wonky A string issue that another reviewer had, which explains the reduction in a star for quality, but Joel at HMS recommended replacing with a Worth Clear and we trust our man Joel. If you're looking for a light, singy soprano this may not be for you, but if you want to take something out and watch the jaws drop this is the one.

Little dog, BIG bark
Got this as our first Soprano based on the HMS description and LOTS of web sound samples, but none of that prepares you for the real thing live. And that sums up the character: it's ALIVE. first, the volume it punches out is ridiculous! It drowns out our solid all-Mahogany tenor, even from a separate room. And the tone: full, rich, woody - pushes midrange and bass tones that rival our cedar concert - must be the acacia. The satin finish gives it a dry crunch and let's the grain belt out the volume and the wood and craftsmanship go way past the price. Might have been our little guy, but the A string tone decays quickly compared to the top 3 -that's why we didn't give it a full 5stars for quality. To our newbie ears it doesn't have the traditional high-pitch 30s soprano tone, but pull it out, play it and watch the jaws drop.

Sweet sounding soprano
My wife had an older Pono Koa soprano with a gloss finish that she loved and gave to her brother as a gift. We replaced it this summer with this satin finish acacia tenor. This new Pono is marked improvement from its predecessor.

The most noticeable change is the balance of the instrument due to the lighter friction tuners. The older model had heavy geared tuners. The acacia is lighter in color than the koa but it reminds my wife of driftwood on the beach and she likes it even better for that reason.

The tone of this instrument is very sweet, clear, and with good volume. It has the classic hawaiian sound. Fit and finish is impeccable. Pono is just leaps and bounds ahead of where they were just a few years ago. This company is on the rise!

Great Mid-range Uke
I got this uke when I was ready to upgrade to a solid ukulele after learning on a laminate. First of all, it is a beautiful uke. The pictures don't do it justice. The color of mine is darker than this one looks, but that could just be differences in wood grain. I really like the satin finish, but that's just my preference.

As for sound, it has great sustain. Most of the notes ring clear and it's nice and loud, especially for a soprano, but it still maintains that sweet "Hawaiian" sound. It's louder than my laminate concert (which has a very "punchy" sound).

The only complaint I have is that my A string buzzes pretty badly. I switched out the stock strings because I wasn't a huge fan and the new strings were thinner than the stock strings. I had to put the stock A string back on because the buzz from the thinner string was awful. I'll probably have to replace the nut at some point.

Overall, for a ukulele right around the $300 price point, it's a great ukulele. It's one of the most basic Pono models, but it looks and sounds really nice.
