Beautiful NEW All Solid Acacia Steel String Baritone.
The customer that ordered this decided they wanted the nylon version. But it's still new and has an LR Baggs installed, AND it;s over $130 off from what you would pay. Pictures show the exact instrument available here.
This is new and unique instrument from Pono Guitar & Ukulele. It has a 21.4" scale and is shaped and braced like a mini guitar. It's smaller body and shorter scale than a tenor guitar, but larger than a baritone. Pono describes the inspiration for their UL series guitars-
"In the 1800's guitar makers migrated from Europe to the eastern United States. Some of their first designs were what we today refer to as "parlor" guitars. Big guitars were not yet on the market. The most common sizes had an 11" to 13" wide body width.
Small size guitars produce a sparkling tone, a chime, and somewhat of a natural reverberating sustain. In the early to mid 1900's a few guitar manufacturers produced similar size "parlor" guitars. The Li'i is the body width of what was known as a Style 2, and the 'Uku Li'i a Style 5."
This instrument is a throw back to those first steel string guitars, but with 4 strings, like a smaller tenor guitar, or a larger steel string baritone if you are more familiar with ukulele.
This new model features gorgeous solid acacia wood, a slotted headstock, and includes the deluxe custom fir hard wood case.
Pono only uses solid woods, bone nut and saddle, and wood bindings. No plastics. They have a climate-controlled factory on the island of Java and diligently aim for perfection on every level. It shows!
