This is a new Pro Classic Series, using an European spruce top and Macassar ebony sides & back. Along with its striking beauty, it has a fantastic sound and feel. Now, for 2018, this model has a new multiwood rosette and side sound port.
Macassar ebony is one of the premier exotic woods used in high end custom acoustics. It's higher in cost than koa wood, but the sound quality is undeniably choice. How so? Clean and crisp, rich with overtones and singing sustain, and coupled with a spruce top, the dynamic range is wide, and projection is wonderful.
Kalei samples this gorgeous new tenor model from Pono.
Framing off this exquisite ebony is curly maple wood binding. Maple gives a natural contrast that really pops!
This model, like all Pro Classics from Pono, has a radius fingerboard. It's not an extreme radius, it's hardly noticeable until pointed out. But it adds to the comfort of play.
The dual action truss is another advantage to the Pono tenors. This allows us to fine tune the curvature of the neck, and gives it extra long term stability and adjustability.
Comes in a very protective wooden arched top hardshell case designed for it.
Pono only uses solid woods, only bone nut and saddle, only wood bindings, and no plastics. They have a climate controlled factory on the island of Java, and they diligently aim for perfection on every level. It shows! This is a Pono factory tour video we shot in March 2017.
