Pepe Romero is a custom builder from California. He has been making classical guitars for many years and in the past 7 or 8 has become known within the ukulele community for the unique and beautiful tone his tenors have. We are fans of his work here! They're light in weight, open in sound, and have a distinct sonic character that inspires music.
This is a tenor with German Spruce top, and Walnut back, and sides, South American rosewood bindings bridge and fretboard and a mahogany neck. Kalei plays the exact ukulele available here.
This is his own new and unique "skin-bracing" for the top and back. Pepe builds ukes differently than anyone else, and they sound amazing!
Another key feature to Pepe's builds is the hand rubbed French polish finish. This highly skilled finishing method optimizes the vibration of the wood while still protecting it from the elements. Also noteworthy is that Pepe's ukes are the lightest in weight from any that we carry and a real joy to play.
In that regard, the Gotoh 4:1 ratio tuners are very light, fast and precise in tuning. Note: This has Pepe's new design clear pickguards on both sides.
This is a tenor sized instrument and comes with a wooden hardshell tenor case and an Oasis humidifier.
