This is a new tenor and the value is awesome! So beautiful and with a sweet balanced tone.
Corey samples this model with the Ko'olau Aho fluorocarbon Low G set. You can get this instrument setup with this string set in the options here on this page. Another option is this same set but in high G which will give a brighter sound than the stock nylon set. It’s a personal preference. There is no “best” string set. But we think this one sounds great.
This tenor features an all-solid figured acacia body. These have some of the most beautiful acacia you will find and the tone is just as beautiful.
It's framed off with maple wood bindings as well as a smooth arm bevel for extra comfort when holding and playing. Abalone shell purflings run along the bindings, really making this one pop! A full asymmetrical body style cutaway gives the easiest access to the highest frets of any style cutaway.
Ebony is used for the bridge and fretboard with a beautiful inlay made with abalone, pearl shell, and recon stone. It's the most "custom looking" affordable uke we've found and it sounds great too!
This instrument is made with all natural materials, bone nut and saddle, real shell inlays, and wood bindings. It has a glassy finish showing off the beauty of the woods, but the neck is satin finish for smooth sliding up and down the fretboard. The headstock is a unique design from Mauloa called the "U classic". Very attractive and these are built with an excellent understanding of ukulele construction for stability and resonance. This includes features you can't see like an advanced bracing system and a carbon fiber reinforcement in the necks.
Mauloa tenors feature the 1.5 inch width at the nut that gives a tiny bit more room for your fingers and is preferred by many for clean comfortable playing.
The D'addario strings they come with have a nice warm balance. But for more volume and clarity we suggest the Ko'olau Aho upgrade. This really depends on your style and taste but we will have more videos coming with different string options.
We set up each instrument to ensure you get the absolute best for your money! This includes the following: saddle and nut heights, fret work (usually planing or dressing), intonation checks, and a thorough inspection for cosmetic flaw. This is crucial for this middle price range; you can really get close to a high-end tenor feel from our work. We are always dedicated to giving you honest and expert service and advice!
We always include a humidifier with solid wood instruments. However, if you live in a dry area, or use indoor heating or cooling for part of the year, please upgrade to the Oasis humidifier to properly protect this solid wood ukulele.
For this instrument, we are including a deluxe gig bag. You can switch to a canvas covered hard case here, upgrade to a wooden case in the cases section. Any of our tenor cases will fit this one well and you can use the discount $20 on those listings.
