This tenor is brand new from northern California luthier Dave Sigman. Dave is one of the most talented luthiers making ukes and it's always a pleasure to showcase his creative and musical instruments. This one has an extended 19" scale (2 inches longer than standard tenor) that gives a strong projection and clarity and makes it 15 frets to the body joint.
You can see a mermaid inlayed on the faceplate in various shells. Bronze & Black MOP body & hair, Heart Red Abalone for her tail. Dave does all of his inlays by hand and he is amazingly accurate with all of his lines.
You will notice something on this ukulele that you may have never seen before. The tuning gears are top mounting Gotoh Stealth tuners but they are mounted on the back of the headstock using Dave's ingenious design. After the strings pass over the nut they run through carbon fiber tubing to the back of the headstock allowing the faceplate to be an uninterrupted canvas for inlay art. This is a concept that Dave came up with himself and is one of the most ingenious ideas we have ever seen. In order to keep the angle of the strings in line with the angle of the tuners Dave has recessed the cavity for the tuners to be at the same angle. This is the second ukulele with what Dave calls his "Sig-nature Peghead". It tunes smoothly, works perfectly and is a brilliant idea for an extra cool look.
Other eye catching features on this ukulele include gorgeous curly Hawaiian koa, Macassar ebony 16" radius fretboard and bridge, and a unique "necklace" rosette with Rosewood burl. The finish is a semi-gloss lacquer and feels wonderful, very smooth and professionally done.
There are many unique and cool features on this beautiful ukulele but the real magic is how effortless it plays and the wonderful tone that it has. Kalei gives us a raw sound sample.
"Every piece of wood for my ukuleles is carefully selected, and each instrument is constructed with an unwavering approach to the highest quality, and with a deep spirit of Aloha. I personally build each ukulele, one at a time, in my workshop located in Little River, on the beautiful Mendocino Coast of Northern California." -- Dave Sigman
