New Kiwaya KTS-4 w/Gotoh UPT Tuners & Ebony Fretboard

We used to always get older Martin ukes in our repair shop, and have refinished over 50 old Martin’s. We are very familiar with the old Martin ukes and this Kiwaya KTS-4 replicates the vintage Style 0 in look, sound, and feel like no other uke being made. In fact, it sounds as good as the vintage Martin’s and the wood has not even aged yet!!

This ukulele is the quintessential ukulele tone. The sound of early Hawaiian music and Tin Pan Alley. This ukulele has all of the richness and warmth of a vintage uke, but with spot on intonation and finish.

Japan has long been known for their meticulous attention to detail with fine instrument construction. This ukulele is a great example. Kiwaya builders display an exactness and refinement that is second to none. When we were at the 2011 music trade show, NAMM, Aaron mentioned numerous times that we should carry Kiwaya. This is their most popular model, and for good reason. No extra cost for fancy stuff, just straight up great tone!

This is what Kiwaya says from their website: “Kiwaya Ukuleles are built as light as possible for tone and projection. Our craftsmen pay close attention to details such as intonation, action, playability and cosmetic appearance. Kiwaya Ukuleles are all made in Japan and are the only Japanese-built ukuleles available in the U.S. market.”

The 2017 KTS-4 now has upgraded ebony freboard and bridge and Gotoh UPT 4:1 gear ratio tuners making it even better!

We set up each instrument to ensure you get the absolute best for your money! This includes saddle and nut heights, Fret work and a thorough inspection for cosmetic or structural flaw. Also, we include a humidifier with solid-wood instruments like this and we do not charge for it.

Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

This is ukulele comes with a canvas hardcase.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco included humidifier for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18). This is suggested if you live in a low humidity area (parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc.) including cold winter areas if you heat the air in your home. For more info see our Ukulele Care link at the bottom of the site.

None of these options are required. You can still create a package with accessories on the site by going to different product pages and adding to cart.

This ukulele will automatically come with a canvas-covered hard case and a Herco HE-360 Humidifier. The options are just for convenience and to offer an extra discount while you buy such a beautiful instrument. Aloha!

Good but not my favorite
Quality ukulele with a deep punchy sound.

I purchased this to replace a Martin S-1. Comparing the two, I think the Martin is a better ukulele.

Perfection!!
I am the proud owner of several ukuleles of all sizes ranging from inexpensive to K brand. The Kiwaya KTS-4 is by far my favorite! For a company that's been around since the 1900's, the quality definitely speaks for itself. Despite lack of fancy inlays, fret markers or gloss finish, the KTS-4 is truly built with high attention to detail. It is delicately light, with fantastic resonance! Intonation is spot on to the 12th fret, utilizing worth strings as my preference. The stock tuners worked well, however I did swap them for Gotoh UPT's for added precision. Purchased from Hawaii Music Supply, the set-up was amazing as always, with the instrument packaged to perfection prior to shipping. Thanks guys!! :-)
If you're looking for a simple, high quality soprano at a reasonable price...look no further!! Kiwaya does not disappoint!

So this is what it feels like to buy a new Martin in 1930!
I had the chance to compare my Kiwaya KTS-4 to a vintage Martin and I was impressed with how much they resemble. I actually liked the Kiwaya a little more than the Martin...
Light as a feather, extremely resonant and a sheer joy to play.
The pictures don't even do it justice, in real life this little ukulele is a gem of Form Follows Function. If you're looking for a classy and classic 'hog soprano, this the one!

Best thing next to vintage
If you lust after the old Martins but don't want to bother with the problems of old vintage ukes, then this is the uke for you. Has that old twang that only vintage instruments are capable of, but brand spanking new! in love!

More Martin than Martin
This is a lightly built and sweet sounding uke that looks like a Martin but does not have the plinky Martin sound, that I like, in my opinion. The action is so low on my uke that I can't believe it dosn't buzz anywhere. This is probably one of the few instrument HMS does not need to set up since there's not much room for improvement out of the factory. It really feels like an old instrument that's in perfect shape. I didn't like the Hilo black strings it came with at first but Aquila's did not work for me. Worths were good but I like the D'Addario black nylon strings best with this instrument.

These are just a little more in cost than the excellent Ponos but at a much higher level of quality. I highly recommend this brand.

Sounds like a bell ringing
This little Soprano is flawless and delicate; very light with a bell-like tone that is hard to duplicate in any other Ukulele I've played. Usually I play Tenor size but I would never give this one up. Many songs just sound better on this Ukulele.
