Kala Solid Spruce Top Ebony Cutaway Baritone with Pickup
"New for 2019, this is a Solid Spruce Top Striped Ebony baritone with a venetian cutaway and Fishman® Kula preamp. Spruce is known for its clarity, and dynamic range and response while ebony provides strong bass presence and responsive highs for a well-rounded sound profile."
We have been blown away lately with the quality that the Kala company is coming with. This baritone has a solid spruce top, striped ebony sides and back, and mahogany binding. The design and woods are noticeably beautiful and still tasteful. The sound is amongst the best in this price range with great clarity and projection and darker overtones for a really rich sound.
For many people, spruce is the ultimate soundboard wood. It projects and gives a wide range of frequencies hardwoods can not. One of the great things about spruce is that the sound will improve for many years. This makes it more of a keepsake. Something that you will have for many years and will continue to get better.
If you were looking for a really great sounding and playing baritone with a cutaway and pickup, and at a reasonable price, this brand new model from Kala is a wonderful choice. Not only is Kala bringing a better quality than ever before, but after your uke makes it past our quality check, it is then significantly improved with a setup you would normally only get from a specialty repair or custom shop.
We pride ourselves on having the ukulele expertise to help you get the perfect one! We have zeroed out the best models from the best brands, and this Kala is one!
The baritone ukulele is the same tuning as the high four strings on a guitar. A 4th lower than a regular ukulele, but the shapes are all the same. The main reason you would want a baritone ukulele is because it sounds so dang good. It is significantly smaller than a guitar but still gives you a similar depth and color. The standard G C E A just doesn't do this. Both G C E A and D G B E are the same intervals but with a different key and tension. The same shapes inspire different composition. It is fun to have both a regular ukulele and a baritone ukulele. Both are equally -- and uniquely -- ukulele. :)
This baritone can also be tuned GCEA with the right strings for that. We sell a baritone set with that option from Aquila you can find in our string section.
