All Solid Spruce Mahogany Tenor

This is a new Kala exclusive for The Ukulele Site. We sat down with Kala and designed this model to be the best affordable all solid wood tenor. It has a spruce top and natural (non stained) mahogany. We had them round the corners more than they usually do for nice soft edges, and ebony fretboard and bridge for a beautiful organic look and wonderful feel.

We set up each instrument to ensure you get the absolute best for your money! This includes the following: saddle and nut heights, fret work (usually planing or dressing), intonation checks, and a thorough inspection for cosmetic flaw. This is crucial for this middle price range; you can really get close to a high end tenor feel from our work. We are always dedicated to giving you honest and expert service and advice!

We are currently out of stock on the canvas covered cases we were providing with this uke, but are offering the upgraded arched top wooden case for an additional $45 off.

We always include a humidifier with solid wood instruments. However, if you live in a dry area, or use indoor heating or cooling for part of the year, please upgrade to the Oasis humidifier to properly protect this solid wood ukulele.

Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide, at no extra cost, on all ukuleles we ship out. However, this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We now offer "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options, along with current turnaround times for each, at the link- HERE.

One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco HE-360, included humidifier, for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18 or OH-5+) at a discount. This is required if you live in a low humidity area (parts of California, Nevada, Arizona, etc..), or areas with winter seasons, especially if you are heating the air in your house. For more info refer to the ukulele care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, you need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work, and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Great value ukulele
I love this ukulele. I upgraded from a Lanakai soprano and I just can't believe the difference in quality and sound. I can't ever go back to playing the other and I want to play this one all day long. I've had it for a few months now and I still love it and am already planning on my next purchase from HMS. The staff helped me narrow down my choice because they make every uke on their site sound so good! I'm glad for their time and attention. It took a month to get to me but it was worth the wait. I won't buy a ukulele from anywhere else.

Love my new Uke
This is my second Ukulele. My first was a $50 Lanakai Soprano. The sound and quality difference are amazing. I didn't know what I was missing but I have had this new Kala for over a week and I don't want to put it down. I had a hard time deciding as the guys make every Uke on the site sound incredible but I knew I wanted a solid wood beginner ukulele and the value was right for this model. I called the store and they helped me narrow it down and I'm happy with my purchase. It did take about a month to get (Washington State) after the full setup but it sounds great and was worth the wait. I'm already planning on my next ukulele and I will no doubt purchase it from HMS because of their amazing quality. Thanks all!

Can’t go wrong with this one
I’m so glad I took a chance on this all solid model. It might have been the emotional appeal of the Spirited Away sound clip :p It has been an all positive experience playing my new tenor. I upgraded to the recommended strings and requested the set up with the low G. Its easy to play, and sounds beautiful and clear. I have it next to my bedside and usually play it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. My skills are improving which is priceless and didn’t require a costly investment to do so. I’m petite with small hands but this tenor is comfortable to play. Thank you Ukelele Site and Kala for another wonderful uke!

Great student-level step up ukulele.
I have a Kala concert spruce top that I am very happy with, but this spruce/mahogany tenor is another thing altogether. I went with the low G setup to get a little more range and find myself playing melody using slides and bends quite a bit – the ebony fingerboard is very smooth, and the instrument has enough sustain to make these stand out well.
I also play with a shifting group of musicians and often introduce songs on the ukulele. This instrument is more than loud enough to be heard over 2 or 3 guitars, but can also be used for soprano leads with great depth and character. I am certain it is going to make me a better player as I grow into what it can do.
Of course, the setup for any instrument is crucial and this is perfect, with very low action and clear tones right out to the 18th fret. Thanks to all the folks at The Ukulele Site for their passion and attention to detail!

A Winner
This instrument sounds gorgeous. It has a great sustain and plenty of volume with a nice balance of brightness and warmth. It's also very easy to play. I had mine setup with a low G, which has given it a nice low end. Finding an all-solid ukulele at this price is impressive. This is a perfect step up from a laminate instrument.
