*** I'iwi Custom Sinker Redwood/ Myrtle Tenor***
Pictures and video specific to this listing.
There are two cosmetic blemishes on this uke shown in the last two pictures. One right below the bridge and one at the back of the headstock. We just got it from Charlie yesterday. It's brand new. And for the cosmetic blemishes we are deducting $800 from the regular price.
This is a gorgeous new custom from Charlie Fukuba with a different wood selection than we've ever had from him. It's a sinker redwood top and an exceptional set of Myrtle for the sides and back. The back is a 3 piece with a koa center strip and neck heel cap to match. Very nice on the eyes and these woods really give a perfect balance to the deep rich I'iwi tone.
Charlie Fukuba is a musician and he builds for tone. With I'iwi you get a warm, clear sound that plays true all the way up the neck. This one sounds incredible! Tobias and Corey give it a sample.
Sinker redwood is a favorite among high-end builders for its brilliance and warmth in tone. This is complemented with beautiful myrtle wood, known for being clear and bright, but with a bottom end much like rosewood. Together these woods make for a very rich, yet articulate tenor that is available here.
Abalone pearl inlays make the fretmarkers and I'iwi bird at the headstock. This is a classy tenor equally beautiful in look and sound. The design with its three small sound holes lends itself to the rich guitar-like tones many of us love to hear. This is what Hawaii's top custom builders usually aim for: a big, warm, yet clear and projecting sound that sings. I'iwi does this so well and this is certainly one of the best we've experienced.
Other things to note is comfortable feel and spot on neck angle and setup. Plus you get the long-term stability of a graphite rod in the neck and Charlie's new mortise and tenon bolt on joint. It also has a hand rubbed gloss finish and Gotoh UPT tuners.
Our package includes a deluxe wooden hard case and humidifier.
