Here in Hawai'i I'iwi is among the most highly regarded custom instruments you can get. For the last 20 years the majority have gone off to Japan but we are truly excited to start showing you many more I'iwi ukuleles. Not because they are made in Hawaii and feature beautiful woods and designs, but because they sound SO great!
Charlie Fukuba is a musician first and foremost and he builds for tone. His craftsmanship is excellent and the inlay is super cool, but we love I'iwi for the tone. Such a warm, clear sound that plays true all the way up the neck. Radius fretboard is another awesome feature you rarely see on a concert.
This golden colored curly koa is known for it's "open" tone and this one doesn't disappoint. It's one of the absolute best concert ukes we've ever played. Pictures and video show the exact instrument available here.
This is a rare gem from Hawaii's best! Oahu based musician and luthier Charles Fukubu builds with an emphasis on sound along with play ability and reliability.
During my music career, I’ve come across a few special instruments that you just can’t stop playing,” said Fukuba. “These instruments have a certain magic to their sound and this is the same special feeling that I want to produce in my ukuleles.
This ukulele has a radius fretboard and a graphite rod in the neck. It also has a hand rubbed gloss finish.
Other features include a maile lei in abalone rossette, diamond abalone fretboard markers, and I'iwi bird headstock logo. It has Gotoh UPT geared tuners and bone for the nut and saddle. The body is made with koa with a three piece back. This is a beautiful instrument in every way and comes with a perfect fitting hard shell case.
We wait many months for these instruments but if it says "In Stock" you can get it now!
