This beautiful new custom 8 string is a soprano scale with the ML tenor body. This gives the same proportions as a mandolin. The sound is much fuller than a standard soprano 8-string and it plays strong all the way through the octave. If you were looking for a different sound in your music, this cool new custom might be just right. RIght now (and in the video) it's tuned GCEA like standard ukulele tuning, played exactly the same as your other ukuleles. With some different gauge strings it would make a great nylon string mandolin as well if you are comfortable with tuning in 5ths.

Corey gives us a sound sample here. Our sound samples are recorded for true reference and have no alteration or enhancement. Use quality playback source (monitors or headphones) for the most accurate listening.

Features include Honduras back, sides and head plate, ebony fret board and bridge, and Cuban mahogany neck. The top is Adirondack spruce. The binding is koa, and the markers and head stock logo are mother of pearl. Strings are W orth clears, and the tuners are Gotoh U P T . The Komogong ebony for this ukulele was salvaged from a large ebony ox-drawn sled used in the Philippine jungle that was salvaged and shipped to the U.S. circa 1049. The spruce is from the Adirondack region of New York state. This ukulele can also be converted to mandolin by changing string gauge and tuning in fifths.

Jerry Hoffman is a master craftsman and artist. He obviously went way beyond the manual on how to build an ukulele. Each aspect of this build reflects an incredible amount of thought and development. The neck joint on this ukulele is extremely strong because of the "full heel block" that Hoffmann designed. He discusses this method at his article Ukulele Neck Joints. The result is a graceful neck unaffected by the body joint or any issues that can come up around the 'tongue" of the fingerboard where it comes onto the body. It's basically an electric neck and that has some advantages with play-ability all the way up it. This one has the ability to be unbolted and adjusted if that was ever needed. This ukulele is built to last many generations of joyful play.

Hoffmann ukuleles are made from materials hand processed from as close their source as possible. This gives full control over the process and insures the best sound, durability and style. The actual construction of the ukulele is done entirely by hand where attention is paid to how the materials are selected, and how they will interact together as a single unit. All Hoffmann ukuleles feature an exclusive pinned nut that allows string gauge changes without replacement or modification as required with traditional nuts.

Other noteworthy aspects include the bound side sound port, Gotoh UPT tuners, a beautiful gloss finish to protect it, and a perfect fitting custom made arched-top wooden case. This is a wonderful and very unique build from a renowned lutheir.

Setup Options

Most people shop with us because of the extensive quality control and final setup work we provide at no extra cost on all ukuleles we ship out. However this is time consuming work and creates a delay in shipping. We are now offering an "Expedited Setup" for those wanting to receive their instrument faster. See details on the Full Setup and Expedited Setup options along with current turnaround times for each at the link- HERE.

Extra Options

* One of the options for this ukulele is to trade out the Herco included humidifier (HE-360) for the more expensive Oasis Ukulele Humidifier (OH-18 or OH5+) at a discount. OH5+ is for extremely dry climates or an area with winter seasons if you heat the air in your house. For more info refer to the Ukulele Care link at the bottom of this page. If you think you need to humidify the instrument, then you also need a hard case for a humidifier to properly work (included in purchase), and you need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

* Put a note in the Special Instructions if you would like to let our setup or shipping department know anything

Setup Options

Current Turnaround Time: Amount of time it takes before shipment-

Full Setup: 10-14 Business Days

Basic Quality Control: 2-3 Days

BASIC QUALITY CONTROL covers inspecting the instrument for any major defects that would have been missed by the factory and any faults in construction that could potentially damage or limit the functionality of the instrument over time. Any defective instruments are rejected and replaced.  We make sure that each Ukulele meets the basic standard for a brand new instrument and will be ready to play once you receive it. A final cleanup is also included after inspection before packing and shipment.

Full Setup - FREE for all Ukuleles $399 and over / $20.00 for Ukuleles from $300-399 / $30.00 for Ukuleles Under $300

Includes:

-Overall QC evaluation: To find defects in construction as well as to get an overall view of the instrument and note the areas that need extra attention and adjustment during the setup.

-Saddle Adjustment: The height of the saddle is lowered to reduce the distance between the strings and the fretboard, making it easier to play than the factory setup, especially higher up the fretboard.

-Nut Slot Adjustment: The depth, width, and angle of the nut slots are adjusted to create a more comfortable playing experience especially on the lower frets.

-Fret Dressing: After adjusting the nut and saddle heights, high spots in the fretboard or uneven frets will potentially cause fret buzz, dead spots, or other unwanted problems. The frets are filed to create a more consistent level across the fretboard. We then crown the frets to return their rounded curvature back to the top of each fret creating a clear contact point for each string. We then smooth and polish the frets and condition the fingerboard to bring them back to new condition.

-Final Cleanup: We always do a final overall cleanup of the instrument to make sure it is in new condition and ready to play before it is prepared for shipment.

Rush Setup & Delivery - Additional $50.00
The RUSH SETUP AND DELIVERY service is for customers who would still like to receive everything included in the full setup but on a shorter time frame. One of our setup technicians will work overtime outside of normal business hours to complete the setup within 2-3 days of the order being placed and immediately hand it over to the shipping department for packing and shipment. The $50.00 rush charge is in addition to the cost of the full setup.

Additional services (see individual product listings to add these services to your order)
Re-stringing: We will replace the factory installed stock string set with a new set of your choosing. Select the “replace stock strings” option when adding your desired string set to the shopping cart.

Strap Button Installation: 1-2 buttons are installed to allow the use of a strap. Color options available.
