Pono is a line from Ko'olau, a maker of high-end custom ukes here on the island. The Pono line is an affordable version, with the same specs and build as the Ko'olau. They really stand out against other choices in their price range.
The Mango wood gives this tenor a sweet and juicy tone just like the fruit it produces. When it is quarter sawn and dried properly, like this, mango is a very stable and choice tonewood. This deluxe model shows off the beautiful wood with a professional gloss finish. Look and listen to this unique new model from Ko'olau's popular Pono line. There are only a few left with the mango faceplate style. After these are gone, this model will have an ebony faceplate. The tone has warmth and clarity similar to the characteristics found in mahogany and koa. Along with sounding great, this new mango line features beautiful, exotic wood patterns, and variations in the wood grain that will bring you joy to hold and admire.
We always include a Herco humidifier with solid wood instruments. Upgrades are available in the options for dry or cold climates.

I received this ukulele around 2017 and I am still stunned by how well the wood grain is displayed by the gloss finish. I like being able to compare how the instruments sound...and I appreciate all the great choices this site offers! The build on this uke is spotless.....inside and out. A dental mirror inside shows custom like detail. The wood is beautiful and the grain pattern very striking. And when you strum...it's gorgeous! I got the pineapple style because I believe it projects more... I could not try them side by side so went with my theory that bigger box makes a bigger sound... Now if I could just play like Kalei Gamiao! I went and bought all his CDs! Wow!

This is my go-to ukulele 0 people found this helpfulThis is a fun, and beautiful ukulele. It has a slightly brighter sound than my Acacia ukulele, but is has a full enough tone to be a good solo instrument. The setup was great when I got it. I did have to have the neck truss rod adjusted to remove a slight buzz after about six months of being in our drier climate. But, the adjustment was easy, and it fixed the problem. This is the first instrument I pick up when heading out the door to play with a group. I love it, and so does everyone who plays it.

The gloss finish really shows off the beautiful mango. As always, the setup is wonderful. I could not be happier. I got it with the Mono case which is very nice. I loved my Pono MT but this one......
