The newest Pro Classic RTSH features especially gorgeous Indonesian rosewood and here with the added side sound port. This new model is a new level in tone and value with a Western red cedar top giving a spacious and "open" tone that now actually rivals some of the best custom tenors you can find. Macassar ebony is used for the bridge, fingerboard, and faceplate. The sound on these last rosewood models is by far the best they have ever been. Noa and John from Koolau redesigned the bracing and it is such a great sound now that I would put it up against any custom tenor for three times the price.
This is quality in every way. The look, sound, and with the new 12" radius fretboard, the feel is also on another level. Take a listen as Kalei gives us a "raw" sound sample.
Cedar has a "broken in" quality, or a sweetness in sound that it takes other woods many years to attain. Along with that is the deep, rich tonality given from this rosewood. The custom styled slotted headstock and perfect lacquer gloss finish show an elegant beauty to go with the deep rich tone.
A key feature in all of the Pono tenor and baritone models is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. This is used to stabilize and adjust the lengthwise forward curvature (also called relief), of the neck. It can be adjusted from right inside the soundhole with an allen wrench provided. This is something you will probably not need to adjust. But over time and with humidity changes, it is a very useful option to have, and a very easy thing to adjust with little room for error.
The RTSH sounds great with a low G too (high G in the video). If you would like, we will be glad to set it up that way for you at no extra charge. Just make a note in the special instructions at the bottom of the page saying string Low G.
Stock strings - Ko'olau Alohi w/3rd high G. Comes with custom fit hardshell case.
